What do BMW owners in Palmdale usually need?
Palmdale is spread out, and people drive here. A BMW in the Antelope Valley gets used for long runs, so the calls we take are usually practical: no spare key was ever made, a fob has quit, a shell has cracked, or the car is locked with the key inside.
Where it happens matters. Lockouts cluster in big lots like the Antelope Valley Mall, where a smart fob ends up on a seat or in a bag. Replacement-key calls often start at the Palmdale Transportation Center park-and-ride, when someone comes back from a Metrolink day and the key is gone or the fob is dead. At home, the tract streets of Rancho Vista and Anaverde mean a car in a driveway with one key to its name. If all you need is to get inside, our Palmdale car lockout service is the quicker page to read.
What decides the job is the car's generation, not the badge. A 2005 BMW and a 2022 BMW are completely different problems, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than at your bumper.
How does mobile BMW key service work at the curb?
Palmdale is 59 miles from our Westwood storefront, so we come to you in a mobile van instead of asking you to tow the car to us. The same company answers the phone and sends the van. There is no dispatch middleman passing your job to a stranger.
- Call (213) 577-1366 at any hour. Give us the model, the year, and whether you have a working key, a dying fob, or nothing at all.
- We work out the key generation from the model and year, then confirm by VIN. Where the data is unclear, we say so instead of guessing.
- Before anyone drives out, we tell you honestly which bucket you are in: work we can do at the car, work that needs bench module work, or a dealer-only car.
- At the car, we confirm you are the owner, then cut, program or repair as that generation requires.
- We test the result the way you will use it: start, remote functions, doors, and the spare.
Which BMW key generation does your car use?
BMW keys fall into clear eras. In plain terms:
- EWS era: through the mid-2000s, and to 2010 on the E83 X3. A remote-head 'diamond' key with an ID44 chip.
- CAS era: starts with the 2002 E65 7-series and runs through the 2004 E60 5-series, 2006 E90 3-series, 2007 E70 X5 and 2013 to 2015 E84 X1. An ID46 fob that inserts into a dash slot, with a Start button.
- F-chassis: F01 7-series (2009), F10 5-series (2011), F25 X3 (2011), F30 3-series (2012), F15 X5 (2014) and F48 X1 (2016). True keyless smart fobs on the ID49 chip. The F01, F10 and F25 use CAS4 modules; the F30, F15 and F48 use FEM/BDC body modules.
- G-chassis: from the 2016 G11 7-series onward. A BDC2 body controller and a 434 MHz fob.
- Newest generations: G70 7-series (2023), U11 X1 (2023), G60 5-series (2024) and G45 X3 (2025). These add Digital Key architecture, and there is no established aftermarket path yet.

Call (213) 577-1366What can actually be done on each generation?
EWS cars are routine specialist work. The keys are originated from the EWS module data on the bench, and that includes the all-keys-lost case.
CAS1 through CAS3+ cars have documented add-a-key and all-keys-lost procedures. Late CAS3+ firmware can need a flash downgrade first, which is extra work, and we will tell you if your car looks like one of those.
F-chassis cars on CAS4/CAS4+ or FEM/BDC modules are advanced specialist jobs. Some tools work through the OBD port; others need bench module work. It is possible, but only with dedicated BMW equipment, and the details depend on your exact model and year.
G-chassis BDC2 cars sit in a different place. Adding a key is specialist-possible when you still have a working key. Losing every key is effectively dealer-only. And the newest generations, the G70, U11, G60 and G45, are dealer-only for key work, period. For more on how we sort these out, see our BMW key page.
What if you've lost every BMW key?
On EWS and CAS cars, an all-keys-lost situation is workable with the right equipment, and a van at your car beats a tow. Expect more steps than adding a key to a car that still has one.
On G-chassis cars we are more careful. There is one advertised aftermarket all-keys-lost route, and it locks the car against future dealer keys. We don't use it, and we won't promise G-series all-keys-lost. If your G-series BMW has no keys, the dealer is the honest answer.
BMW also doesn't use the NASTF SDRM process the way domestic makes do, and dealer paths require proof of ownership. Have your registration and ID ready before you call anyone. Our lost car key replacement page covers the general process for other makes.
Is it really the key? Common BMW problems that look like one
Plenty of calls turn out to be something smaller than a replacement. Before paying for a new key, check whether yours is one of these:
- Dead rechargeable key batteries on 2000s EWS and slot-key cars. The remote dies, but the chip can still start the car.
- Electronic steering-lock (ELV) failures on E-series slot-key cars, which get misdiagnosed as key problems.
- Worn dash key slots, and fobs that no longer hold a charge.
- Dead coin cells in F/G-chassis smart fobs. The car says key not detected while the emergency blade still opens the door.
- Cracked key shells, broken flip hinges on the E83, and worn buttons.
- Comfort Access door-handle sensor faults that get blamed on the key.
- Sticker shock on lost-key jobs for G-chassis cars, where all-keys-lost is dealer territory.

Call (213) 577-1366What affects the cost of BMW key replacement in Palmdale?
We don't quote numbers on a web page, because the same make can be a light job or a heavy one. These are the things that move the cost:
- The generation: EWS and CAS work differs from F-chassis module work, and G-chassis work is different again.
- Add-a-key versus all-keys-lost. Having one working key usually keeps the job the more economical route.
- Module and firmware condition, such as a late CAS3+ that needs a flash downgrade before anything else.
- Whether the work happens over OBD or needs bench module work.
- The key itself: a fob with a cracked shell or dead cell may only need repair, while a lost fob needs a new one.
- The trip: Palmdale is 59 miles from our storefront, and the time of day you call also plays a part.
- How many keys you want made while the van is there.
Dealer or Wilshire Lock & Key: which is the fairer choice?
For some BMWs, the dealer is simply the right call. If you drive a G70, U11, G60 or G45, or a G-chassis car with no keys, we will say so rather than take your money for a job we can't do properly.
For many other BMWs, a mobile locksmith makes sense. EWS, CAS and many F-chassis cars can be handled at the curb or on the bench without a tow, and without leaving your car at a service department. If you have a working key and want a spare, mobile service is often the more convenient route.
Whichever way you go, California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, so ask any locksmith for it before work begins. And compare answers, not just opinions: a straight explanation of what your specific car needs is a good sign. Our car key replacement service in Palmdale page lays out the wider process.
BMW key service across Palmdale neighborhoods
We serve all of Palmdale, including ZIP codes 93550, 93551 and 93552. West Palmdale grew quickly from the late 1980s through the 2000s, with large stucco tract homes around Rancho Vista and the Antelope Valley Country Club, and Anaverde is the newer master-planned community in the southwest hills. Those driveways hold the kind of late-model cars that need smart fobs and module work.
East Palmdale holds older housing from the 1950s to 1980s tied to the aerospace industry, plus apartments and duplexes along Palmdale Boulevard and the eastside avenues. We also cover Joshua Hills, Barrel Springs, the Civic Center area near Poncitlán Square, and nearby unincorporated Desert View Highlands and Sun Village.
The Antelope Valley climate is very hot in summer and freezing on winter nights, which is worth remembering when a fob misbehaves. Check the coin cell before assuming the worst. Start at our Palmdale locksmith page for the full list of services.

Frequently asked questions
Can you make a BMW key if I've lost all of them?
On EWS and CAS-era cars, yes, with the right equipment. F-chassis cars are advanced specialist jobs that depend on the module and model. On G-chassis cars, all-keys-lost is effectively dealer-only, and we won't promise it.
Do you work on 2023 and newer BMWs?
Not for keys. The G70, U11, G60 and G45 use Digital Key architectures with no established aftermarket path, so key work on those is dealer-only. We'll tell you that on the phone.
My BMW says key not detected. Do I need a new key?
Not necessarily. On F and G-chassis cars, a dead coin cell in the smart fob is a common cause, especially if the emergency blade still opens the door. Comfort Access door-handle sensor faults are another cause people blame on the key.
Will I have to prove I own the car?
Yes, expect to. Dealer paths require proof of ownership, and we confirm who we're working for before making a key. Have your registration and ID ready.
Can you come to a parking lot like the Antelope Valley Mall?
Yes. Our vans work at the curb, in parking lots and at driveways. Call (213) 577-1366 and tell us where the car is, and we'll tell you how the job will go.
Should I just go to the BMW dealer?
Sometimes, yes. For G70, U11, G60 and G45 cars, and for G-chassis cars with no keys, the dealer is the honest answer. For many older BMWs, a mobile locksmith can handle it without a tow.
Is it safe to hire a locksmith for a BMW key?
Ask for the BSIS LCO license that California requires of locksmith companies, and ask for a plain explanation of what your car needs. For a replacement fob or a full key, the explanation should match the generation of your car.
