What do Lexus owners in Fillmore usually need?
Fillmore is a small valley city, and the Lexus key calls we'd expect here are ordinary ones: a spare that never got made, a smart fob that has gone quiet, a blade worn smooth, or every key gone at once. What makes it different is where the car sits. Housing in Fillmore is overwhelmingly single-family, so a lot of vehicles live at a house, on a street near Central Avenue, or on a ranch property, not in a managed garage with a front desk. That changes the problem. When a key goes missing at home, you can search the house first, and that is worth doing before you pay for a new one.
Then there are the days away from home. People park at Central Park, the Fillmore Fish Hatchery, Elkins Ranch Golf Course, along Sespe Creek, or outside a shop on Central Avenue, and a key can slip out of a pocket or end up locked inside the car. A Lexus with a smart fob is easy to lock in by accident because the fob can ride in a bag or sit on a seat. That is a lockout, which we cover on our Fillmore car lockout page. It is a different job from replacing a key, though the two turn into each other if the key is truly gone.
The first thing we ask on the phone is what you have in your hand: no key at all, one working key, or a fob that opens the doors but won't start the engine. That single answer decides most of the job.
How does mobile Lexus key service work at the curb?
We bring the equipment to the car. You don't tow a Lexus 55 miles or more to a shop just to get a key, and in many cases towing isn't needed at all. Fillmore is about 55 miles from our Westwood storefront, so when you call we'll tell you plainly how we'd get to you and when a van can reach your location. Here is the usual order of work.
- You call (213) 577-1366. Someone answers around the clock, every day of the year. Tell us the model, the year, where the car is, and which keys you still have.
- We narrow down the key system. Lexus changed key technology several times, and the exact changeover year varies by model, so we confirm by VIN. If your car looks like one of the harder ones, we tell you right then instead of after we arrive.
- A van comes to you: a driveway, a street, a ranch gate, a parking spot at the park or the golf course.
- We verify ownership. Expect to show ID and proof the vehicle is yours, such as registration. We ask this of everyone, and it protects you.
- We cut or prepare the key, then program it. On many Lexus models that happens through the OBD-II port with professional equipment. Newer systems need additional tools or authorization.
- We test everything: doors, ignition or push-button start, remote buttons, and the hidden emergency blade on smart keys. If you have more than one key, we test each.
- Before we start work you hear what the job involves and what is driving the cost, so there are no surprises at the end.

Call (213) 577-1366Which Lexus key do you have? The eras in plain terms
Lexus follows Toyota's chip technology, but it moved to smart keys earlier than most brands. Knowing which era your car belongs to explains why one Lexus key is a quick job and another needs specialist equipment. This is the general progression. Exact years differ by model, which is why we check your VIN.
- Late 1990s to roughly 2005: bladed keys with a Texas 4C fixed-code transponder chip, on laser-cut blades. These came in a longer style and later a shorter one.
- About 2001 to 2009: the Texas Crypto 4D-68 chip in a short high-security key. Models in this group include the LS430, GX470, ES330 and RX330/RX350.
- Roughly 2006 onward, model by model: first-generation push-button-start systems. Examples include the IS in 2006, the ES and LS in 2007, and the RX and GX in 2010. These use an early smart fob.
- 2010 to 2017: a newer smart fob on the RX, GX and LS, with stronger encryption than the first generation.
- From 2013: 128-bit smart keys, a more secure family again. Adding a spare to these is generally straightforward over the OBD port.
- 2022 and newer: the latest server-authenticated smart keys on the 2022+ NX, the 2023+ RX and the new GX550. The key has to be registered through the manufacturer's online system.
What if you've lost every Lexus key?
All keys lost is the hardest version of this job, and how hard depends heavily on the era of the car. We would rather give you the real picture than a hopeful one.
On the older bladed Lexus models, the 4C and 4D-68 era, all-keys-lost is usually workable. We cut a new blade to the lock and program a new key through the OBD-II port with professional equipment.
On the first-generation smart-key cars, roughly 2006 through 2012, losing every key historically meant resetting or replacing the smart computer, or going to the dealer. Current professional tools can usually reset the smart code through the OBD port, but coverage varies, so we confirm for your specific vehicle first.
On 2013-and-newer cars, adding a key when you still have a working one is the easy case. If none are left, we use dedicated emulator hardware to get past the encryption, and it is a bigger job than a spare.
From about 2020, all-keys-lost in the US increasingly requires Toyota/Lexus server codes. That means credentialed access or tool-specific authorization. On the newest platforms, including the 2022+ NX, 2023+ RX, 2024+ GX550 and 2026 ES, all-keys-lost is possible on many cars with specialist server-connected equipment, but coverage is still maturing, and some of these jobs remain dealer-only. If yours is one of them, we will say so on the phone and not send a van out for nothing.

Call (213) 577-1366Other Lexus key problems we see
Not every call is a lost key. These are the common issues, and several are cheaper to fix than a replacement.
- Dead smart-fob battery. The car says 'key not detected' even though the fob is in your pocket. The hidden emergency blade still opens the door, and often a fresh battery is all it needs.
- Worn ignition lock wafers on high-mileage 2000s models. The key sticks or stops turning. Replacing the key does not always cure this, because the lock itself may be worn.
- Worn or chipped laser-cut blades that no longer turn the locks, even though the chip inside still works.
- Hardware-store copies cut without a transponder. They open the doors but will not start the engine.
- Cracked fob shells, broken buttons and water-damaged boards. Our key fob replacement service covers these repairs and replacements.
How much does Lexus key replacement cost in Fillmore?
We don't quote a number on a web page, because the honest answer depends on the car. Here is what moves the cost, from least to most.
- Key era. A bladed 4C or 4D-68 key is a different class of job than a smart fob. Lost-smart-fob replacement runs well above ordinary bladed keys, especially on 2020+ server-authenticated systems.
- Whether you have a working key. Adding a spare when one key works is usually the more economical route. All-keys-lost needs more equipment and more time.
- Server access. Newer Lexus models can require manufacturer authorization, which adds cost to the job.
- The key itself. A smart fob and a laser-cut blade cost differently, and some fobs are priced differently by family.
- Blade cutting. Laser-cut blades need specialized cutting by code or from the lock.
- Location and timing. Fillmore is outside our Westwood base, and calls at odd hours are part of the picture.
- Extra repairs. A worn ignition or a damaged door lock is a separate repair from the key.
Dealer or Wilshire Lock & Key?
A dealer is a legitimate choice, and sometimes it is the only one. Some of the newest Lexus platforms remain dealer-only for all-keys-lost, and we say that openly. If your car is on the list, the dealer is the right call.
For the rest, the tradeoffs are straightforward. A dealer usually means getting the car there, which for a car with no working key can mean a tow. Our service comes to you. On many Lexus models, a mobile locksmith with the right tools can do the same programming at your location, and for older bladed cars and many smart-key cars that is the usually more economical route. We make no promises about cost beyond that, because it depends on your car.
Whichever route you pick, ask the same questions. Who will do the work? Will the new key be tested in every function? And ask any locksmith for their BSIS LCO license, since California requires locksmith companies to hold one. That is a fair question to put to anyone who comes to your car.

We have been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile service vans, serving 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Lexus keys around Fillmore: neighborhoods, heat and dust
Fillmore, ZIP 93015, sits inland in the Santa Clara River Valley with hot, dry summers and occasional strong downslope winds. Heat and dust are rough on keys and fobs. Dust works into exterior lock mechanisms over time, and a Lexus door lock that feels gritty is often the first sign that a blade is wearing. A fob left on a dashboard in valley summer heat is also a good way to shorten its life, so keep spares somewhere shaded and cool.
In Downtown Fillmore, around the Central Avenue district, older bungalows and cottages mean a lot of street parking and cars sitting close to the house. In Heritage Grove on the north side and in North Fillmore, newer tract homes and postwar single-family neighborhoods mean cars at the home. A spare Lexus key made at home on an ordinary day is much easier than an all-keys-lost call at night. Out toward Bardsdale and Piru, both near Fillmore and unincorporated, and across the citrus ranch properties on the valley floor, a vehicle may be parked by a gate or outbuilding far from the road. Tell us exactly how to reach it when you call.
If a lockout is part of your story, or you need something beyond a key, our Fillmore locksmith page lists all our services here, and the Fillmore car key replacement page covers every brand. You can also contact us directly.

Frequently asked questions
Can you make a Lexus key if I've lost every key?
Often yes, but it depends on the car's era. Older bladed 4C and 4D-68 models are usually workable. Smart-key cars from roughly 2013 need dedicated hardware. On the newest platforms, including 2022+ NX, 2023+ RX, 2024+ GX550 and 2026 ES, some jobs remain dealer-only. We confirm by VIN before we send a van.
My Lexus says 'key not detected'. Do I need a new fob?
Not necessarily. A dead fob battery is the most common cause. The hidden emergency blade should still open the door. If a fresh battery doesn't fix it, the board may be damaged or water-affected, and then a repair or replacement makes sense.
Will a hardware-store copy start my Lexus?
A plain copy can open the doors and still not start the engine, because it has no transponder chip. For any Lexus with a chip key, you need a key that is actually programmed to the car.
Can you add a spare Lexus key if I still have one?
Yes, and this is usually the easier and more economical case. On 2013-and-newer cars, adding a key over the OBD port is generally straightforward. On older bladed models we cut and program a new key. We confirm coverage by VIN.
Do you come to Bardsdale and Piru as well as Fillmore?
Both are near Fillmore, and we serve 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Call (213) 577-1366 with the address and we'll tell you how we'd reach you, including ranch properties and gated locations.
Is buying a fob online and having you program it a good idea?
It can work, but it is a gamble. Lexus fobs come in several families, and a fob that doesn't match your car may never program. We would rather identify the correct key by VIN first, then work on it.
How do I know a locksmith is legitimate?
California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license. Ask any locksmith for the number, and check that the company has a real address and answers its own phone. You should also be asked for proof of ownership before a car key is made.
Do you handle lockouts as well as keys?
Yes. If your Lexus is locked with the fob inside, see our Fillmore car lockout page. Call (213) 577-1366 and we'll tell you whether it's a lockout, a replacement, or both.
