The 2018–2024 Camry uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Toyota Camry key guide.

Base trims use an H-chip flip key (HYQ12BFB) with a twist ignition; XLE/XSE and option-package cars use the HYQ14FBC smart fob (8A-A9 system) with push-button start. All-keys-lost on the smart-key version may require Toyota security pass-codes or credentialed access depending on the tool — confirmed per job.
Which key does a 2019 Camry use?
The 2019 Camry was sold with two different key setups, and the trim level decides which one you have. Before anything else, look at how your car starts.
Base trims use a flip key, part number HYQ12BFB, with a twist-style ignition. The key blade folds into the fob, and there is a transponder chip inside. That chip is the H family (128-bit DST-AES), which we have verified against hardware references. A blade cut alone will not start the car. The chip has to be programmed to the vehicle.
XLE, XSE and option-package cars use the HYQ14FBC smart fob, which is part of Toyota's 8A-A9 system, with push-button start. You carry the fob and press the button. There is no key to turn.
Every 2019 Camry we have data on also has a mechanical backup key. On a smart-fob car it is the emergency blade hidden in the fob, and it opens the driver's door if the fob battery dies.
- Twist ignition with a folding key: the H-chip flip key.
- Push-button start: the HYQ14FBC smart fob.
- Not sure which you have? Tell us the trim or give us the VIN and we will sort it out.
Duplicate key or all keys lost: what is different?
If you still have a working key, making a copy is the simpler job. Duplication on this car needs an original key to work from, so keep the one you have in a safe place until we are done. We cut the blade and program the new transponder or fob through the car's OBD port, which is the diagnostic connector under the dash.
If every key is gone, replacement is still possible. It takes more steps because there is no existing key for the car to learn from. On the base flip-key version, that means working through the OBD port to add a new key. On the smart-key version, all-keys-lost may require Toyota security pass-codes or credentialed access depending on the tool used. We confirm that per job rather than promise a method before we have seen the car.
- Tell us your trim, or give us the VIN, and say whether any working key remains.
- We confirm the key type: HYQ12BFB flip key or HYQ14FBC smart fob.
- We cut the blade where the key has one, then program the chip or fob to your Camry through the OBD port.
- We test the key in the ignition or start button, the door locks and the emergency blade before we finish.

Call (213) 577-1366What affects the cost of a Camry key replacement?
We do not quote numbers on a web page, because the real cost depends on a few things we can only learn from you or the car:
- Which key you need: a flip key and a smart fob are different parts with different costs.
- Duplicate or all keys lost. A copy from an existing key is usually the more economical route.
- Whether the smart-key version needs security pass-codes or credentialed access for all-keys-lost.
- How many keys you want made. Having a spare programmed in the same visit saves a second trip.
- Where the car is. Coming to you with a mobile van is a different job from bringing the car to our Westwood storefront.
What we confirm before we start
Most of this page comes from verified data, but one thing depends on the individual car. The all-keys-lost process for the smart-key Camry varies with the tool and the access it needs, so we confirm it by VIN and in person instead of guessing. Trim packages can also blur the line between the two key types, so we check what is actually in your hand or in your ignition.
Common problems we see in this key family are broken flip-key hinges and worn shells, fob battery failure, and the 'key not detected' message on smart-key trims. That message is often just a dead fob battery. Try the fob's emergency blade for the door and check the battery before assuming the fob is dead. A worn shell or hinge on a flip key can often be fixed without replacing the whole key, as long as the chip still works. We will tell you when that is the case.
California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license. Ask any locksmith for it, including us, before work begins.

Frequently asked questions
Does a 2019 Camry key have a chip in it?
Yes. The base-trim flip key has an H-family transponder chip (128-bit DST-AES), and it must be programmed to the car. The smart fob on XLE, XSE and option-package cars is programmed to the car as well.
How do I know if I have the flip key or the smart fob?
Check how the car starts. A twist ignition with a folding key points to the HYQ12BFB flip key. A push-button start points to the HYQ14FBC smart fob. If you are unsure, give us the VIN.
Can you make a key if I lost all my 2019 Camry keys?
Yes, all-keys-lost is possible on this car. The smart-key version may require Toyota security pass-codes or credentialed access depending on the tool, so we confirm the method per job.
Do you need my original key to make a copy?
For duplication on this car, yes, an original key is needed. If you have no working key, that is an all-keys-lost job, which we can still handle.
How is the new key programmed?
We program it through the car's OBD port, the diagnostic connector under the dash, after cutting the blade where one is needed.
My smart-key Camry says 'key not detected'. Do I need a new fob?
Not necessarily. On smart-key trims this message often comes from a dead fob battery. Use the emergency blade to open the door and replace the battery first. If the message continues, call us.
Does the key have a mechanical backup blade?
Yes. The 2019 Camry has a mechanical backup key. On the smart-fob version it is the emergency blade in the fob.
Do you come to me, or do I bring the car in?
Either. We have a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile vans that serve 140 cities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Call (213) 577-1366 to talk it through.
