2015 Toyota Camry key replacement

A 2015 Toyota Camry with a regular ignition uses a remote-head key with an H-family 128-bit transponder chip, programmed through the OBD port. We cut and program these at our Westwood storefront or at your car, including all keys lost. Call (213) 577-1366 any hour.

The 2015–2017 Camry uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Toyota Camry key guide.

Applies to regular-ignition trims; smart-key trims (HYQ14FBA fob with push-button start) use Toyota's 128-bit 8A smart system instead. All-keys-lost on 2015+ H-chip bladed keys has a documented aftermarket OBD procedure.

What kind of key does a 2015 Camry use?

Most 2015 Camrys have a regular turn-the-key ignition, and they use a remote-head key. That is a metal blade with the lock and unlock buttons built into the plastic head. Inside the head is a transponder chip from the H family, a 128-bit DST-AES chip. The car will not start unless it recognizes that chip, so the blade alone is not enough.

That is why a hardware-store copy causes trouble. A plain cut key may turn in the door and even in the ignition, but without a programmed chip the engine will not run. If someone offers you a cheap blank-only copy for this car, it will not solve the problem.

One caution: some 2015 Camry trims have push-button start. Those use a different smart-key fob (the HYQ14FBA) and Toyota's 128-bit 8A smart system, not the H chip described here. If your Camry has a start button and no key slot, tell us when you call, because the process and parts are different.

  • Regular ignition trims: remote-head key with an H (128-bit DST-AES) transponder chip
  • Push-button start trims: smart-key fob on a different system
  • The key has a mechanical backup blade, so the door can still be opened by key if the remote battery dies

Duplicate key or all keys lost: what is the difference?

If you still have one working key, making a duplicate is the simpler job. Duplication on this car needs the original key present. We cut a new blade, program the new chip and remote to the car, and test everything before you leave.

If every key is gone, we can still make you a working key. All keys lost is possible on a 2015 Camry, and there is a documented aftermarket OBD procedure for H-chip bladed keys of this year. In practice that means we do not need to send you to a dealer or tow the car just to get a key started. It does take more steps than a duplicate, because there is no existing key to work from.

Either way, we program through the OBD port under the dash. This job does not require NASTF SDRM access, so it is not blocked behind a manufacturer security login.

How we handle a 2015 Camry key, step by step

The process is the same whether you come to 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood or we come to you in a mobile van.

  1. You call (213) 577-1366 and tell us the year, model and whether the car has a key slot or a start button.
  2. We confirm the key type, and we use the VIN if anything about the trim is unclear.
  3. We cut the blade to the lock, from your existing key if you have one or from the car if you do not.
  4. We program the transponder chip and remote to the car through the OBD port.
  5. We test the door, the remote buttons and the ignition before we call the job done.

What affects the price of a 2015 Camry key?

We will not quote a number in an article, because the real cost depends on your situation. Here is what moves it:

  • Duplicate or all keys lost. With no working key, there is more work involved.
  • Whether you need the remote functions along with the key, or only a key that starts the car.
  • Where the car is. If it is at our storefront it is a different job than a mobile visit to your location.
  • The time of day. We answer 24 hours a day, but a night or weekend call can differ from a daytime one.
  • Trim. Push-button start cars use a different fob and are quoted separately.

What we confirm before we start

The data for this year's H-chip key is verified, but trims vary. We confirm by VIN or in person that your Camry is a regular-ignition car and not a smart-key one, before we cut or program anything. That keeps you from paying for the wrong part.

California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith for it before they work on your car. Wilshire Lock & Key has been in business since 1987, and David oversees the work. You deal with one company, not a dispatch middleman. Frequently asked questions

Does a 2015 Toyota Camry have a transponder key?

Yes. Regular-ignition trims use a remote-head key with an H (128-bit DST-AES) transponder chip. The chip must be programmed to the car, or the engine will not start.

Can a hardware store copy my 2015 Camry key?

A hardware store can cut a blade, but it cannot program the chip. A copy without a programmed transponder may turn in the lock and still will not start the car.

I lost all my keys. Can you still make one?

Yes. All keys lost is possible on this car, using an OBD programming procedure for H-chip bladed keys. It involves more steps than a duplicate, so tell us up front that you have no working key.

Do you need my original key to make a copy?

For a duplicate, yes, the original key needs to be present. If you do not have one, that becomes an all-keys-lost job.

My Camry has a start button. Is the process the same?

No. Push-button trims use a smart-key fob (HYQ14FBA) on Toyota's 128-bit 8A smart system, which is separate from the H-chip key described here. Call us with your VIN and we will confirm what you have.

My remote stopped working but the key still starts the car. What is wrong?

Often it is just the remote battery. Worn buttons and cracked shells are also common on these remote-head keys. If a new battery does not help, bring the key in and we can check it.

Will you come to my car?

Yes. We run mobile vans as well as our Westwood storefront, and we answer the phone at (213) 577-1366 around the clock. You can also contact us online.
