The 2025–2026 NX uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Lexus NX key guide.
2025 Lexus NX: key facts
- Key type
- Smart / proximity key
- Push-to-start
- Yes
- Transponder chip
- Varies by trim — we confirm by VIN
- Programming
- Confirmed per vehicle — call us
- All keys lost
- We can originate new keys on site
HYQ14FLD fob listings run through 2026, but we did not find the chip named for these years — same-generation hardware is expected and confirmed by VIN. All-keys-lost remains server-authenticated specialist or dealer work.
What kind of key does the 2025 Lexus NX use?
The 2025 NX comes with a smart-proximity key. The car senses the fob nearby, so you unlock it and start it with the push-button rather than turning a blade in an ignition. There is also a mechanical backup key for the fob, which matters on the day the fob stops responding.
For an owner, that setup means a few practical things. The fob is a small electronic device, not a cut piece of metal, so it can fail in ways an old bladed key never did. The problems we hear about most with this kind of key are the ones in the list below.
- A dead smart-fob battery, where the car reports "key not detected"
- Water-damaged fobs that went through the wash or a pool day
- Crushed or cracked fobs that were sat on or dropped
- A lost fob, which costs more to replace than a bladed key would
Duplicate or all keys lost: what is different on this NX?
Our data for this year says an original key is needed to duplicate, and that all-keys-lost replacement is possible. Those are two different jobs, and the gap between them is large.
If you have one working fob and want a spare, the existing key gives us something to work from. That is the usually more economical route, and the one we suggest doing before a problem happens. If you have no working key at all, the job changes. All-keys-lost on this vehicle is server-authenticated specialist or dealer work, so it takes more steps and more equipment, and the car has to be identified correctly before anything is ordered.
One thing worth saying plainly: the dealer is not always avoidable for every situation on a vehicle this new. We will tell you honestly whether your case is something we can complete or whether it needs to go through a dealer.
How we handle a 2025 NX key job
We are one company with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile service vans, so the person who answers your call is not a dispatch middleman. David, the owner and lead technician, oversees the work. We have been doing this since 1987 and serve 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
- Call (213) 577-1366. We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
- Tell us what happened: dead battery, damaged fob, one key left, or none left.
- Give us the VIN, which is how we confirm the correct fob and the programming path for your car.
- We tell you whether this is a spare copy, a replacement with a working key present, or an all-keys-lost job, and whether we come to you or you come to the shop.
- We supply the fob, set it up to the car, and test that it unlocks and starts the NX before we call the job done.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What affects the price of a 2025 Lexus NX key?
We do not quote numbers on a web page, because honest pricing depends on the details of your car and your situation. These are the things that move the cost.
- Whether you have a working key. A copy from an original is a lighter-cost job than all keys lost.
- The fob itself. Smart fobs cost more than bladed keys, and a lost fob is one of the costlier cases for this reason.
- The programming path. Server-authenticated work takes specialist equipment and more time than a simple add-on.
- Whether the job is a battery or case problem. A dead fob battery is a different, smaller job than a replacement.
- Where the car is. A mobile visit to your location differs from bringing the NX to our Westwood shop.
- The condition of the old fob. Water or crush damage can mean the fob needs to be replaced rather than revived.
What we have not verified, and how we handle it
Here is the honest part. For the 2025 NX, we found the HYQ14FLD fob listed through 2026, but we did not find the transponder chip named for this exact year. A supplier lists a DST-AES (8A family) chip for the NX line, but that is not confirmed for 2025, and the programming method for this year is also not confirmed.
Same-generation hardware is expected, and that is a reasonable assumption, but we do not sell on assumptions. We confirm the fob and the procedure by VIN, or in person with the car, before anything is ordered or cut. If you want to see the range for this model, the Lexus NX key page covers other years, and the Lexus key hub lists the other models we handle.
One more point worth knowing: California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith for it before they touch your car. When you contact us, ask whatever you like about how we work.
Frequently asked questions
My 2025 NX says "key not detected". Do I need a new key?
Not necessarily. A dead battery in the smart fob is a common cause of that message, and it is a much smaller problem than a failed fob. If a new battery does not clear it, the fob may be damaged, and we can look at it by VIN.
Can you make a spare 2025 Lexus NX key if I only have one?
Yes. Our data says an original key is needed to duplicate this setup, so your working fob is the starting point. Having a spare made while you still have one is the lighter-cost way to do it.
What if I lost every key to my 2025 NX?
All-keys-lost is possible on this vehicle, but it is server-authenticated specialist or dealer work. Call us with your VIN and we will tell you honestly which route fits your case.
Does the 2025 NX have a physical backup key?
Yes. The smart fob has a mechanical backup key, which is useful when the fob will not respond. Keep track of it, because it is part of what makes the fob worth replacing as a full set.
Which chip does the 2025 NX fob use?
We have not verified that for 2025. A supplier lists a DST-AES (8A family) chip for the NX line, but we did not find it named for this year. We confirm by VIN before ordering a fob.
How do I know what a replacement will cost?
It depends on whether you have a working key, the fob needed, the programming path, and where the car is. Call (213) 577-1366 with your VIN and we will explain the pieces. You can also see our wider car key services.
