The 2014–2026 IS uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Lexus IS key guide.

HYQ14FBA smart fob (AG board, PN 89904-53651), 8A chip. Add-a-key over OBD is routine; all-keys-lost uses a DST-AES emulator with professional tools.
What kind of key does a 2014 Lexus IS use?
The 2014 IS is a push-to-start car, so it runs on a smart-proximity fob rather than a key you turn in the ignition. The fob we see for this setup is the HYQ14FBA, with an AG board (part number 89904-53651) and an 8A chip, which is a 128-bit DST-AES transponder. That chip family was verified against two separate hardware references, so we are not guessing at it.
What this means for you: the car talks to the fob wirelessly, and the fob has to be programmed to your car's immobilizer before it will start the engine. Cutting a blade alone does nothing for starting. The fob also carries a mechanical backup key, which opens the driver's door if the fob is dead and is separate from the starting function.
Spare key or all keys lost: what's different?
Both jobs are possible on this car, and neither one requires a trip to the dealer. The difference is in how we get the new fob to talk to the car.
If you still have a working fob, we add a new one over the OBD port. This is routine for this model. The original key is needed for a straightforward duplicate, which is why making a spare before you lose the only one is the easier path.
If every key is gone, we can still make you a working fob. That job uses a DST-AES emulator and professional tools, and it takes more steps than adding a key. It is still done on site with our mobile van, or at our Westwood storefront if the car can be brought in.
- Confirm ownership and match the car to its VIN.
- Cut or confirm the emergency blade and prepare the correct HYQ14FBA-style fob.
- Connect to the OBD port and program the fob. For all keys lost, we use the DST-AES emulator process first.
- Test starting, push-button operation, and the door functions before you leave.
What affects the cost of a 2014 IS key?
We don't quote numbers on a web page, because the real figure depends on your situation. These are the things that move it:
- Whether you have a working fob. Adding a key is usually the more economical route compared with an all-keys-lost job.
- The fob itself. A smart fob costs more than a bladed key, which is a common surprise for IS owners.
- Where the work happens. A mobile visit and a storefront visit are set up differently.
- Time of day. Nights, weekends and holidays can change the arrangement.
- Condition of the old fob. A water-damaged or crushed fob may need to be removed from the system, not just replaced.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366Why does my IS say the key is not detected?
This is the most common complaint on this fob. Often the small battery in the smart fob has run down, and the dash reports that the key was not detected. Before assuming you need a new key, try replacing that battery. If the message continues, the fob may be damaged or not properly programmed to the car.
The other two problems we see are water-damaged fobs, such as one that went through a wash, and crushed ones from a pocket or a car door. If your fob is dead, you can still open the door with the mechanical backup key. For starting, we can tell you whether the fob is the problem or something else is going on.
What we confirm by VIN
The data above is verified for this model year, but trim and production date can still matter on any car. So when you call, we will ask for your VIN and match the fob before anything is ordered or cut. If anything doesn't line up, we will tell you plainly rather than guess.
We have worked on locks and keys in Los Angeles since 1987. David oversees the work, and you deal with one company, not a dispatcher passing the job along. Frequently asked questions
Can you make a 2014 Lexus IS key if I lost all of them?
Yes. All-keys-lost is possible on this car. We use a DST-AES emulator and professional tools, then program a new smart fob over the OBD port.
Do I need the original key to make a copy?
For a standard duplicate, yes, the original key is needed. If you no longer have one, we handle it as an all-keys-lost job instead.
Does the 2014 IS need a dealer for programming?
No. Programming is done through the OBD port, and for this setup we do not need NASTF SDRM access. We do it ourselves, on site or at our storefront.
What chip does the 2014 Lexus IS fob use?
It uses an 8A chip, a 128-bit DST-AES transponder, in the HYQ14FBA smart fob. We still match the fob to your VIN before ordering.
My car says key not detected. Do I need a new fob?
Not necessarily. A dead fob battery is the most common cause. If a new battery doesn't fix it, the fob may be damaged or need programming.
Is there a regular key hidden in the fob?
Yes. The fob has a mechanical backup key that opens the driver's door. It doesn't start the car on its own.
Can you come to me in Los Angeles?
Yes. We have mobile service vans and a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood. Call (213) 577-1366 at any hour.
