The 2006–2008 Ridgeline uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Honda Ridgeline key guide.

What kind of key does a 2006 Ridgeline use?
The 2006 Ridgeline is not a push-to-start truck. It uses a remote-head key: a metal blade that goes in the ignition, with the lock and unlock remote built into the plastic head. Inside that head is a transponder chip from the ID46 family (PCF7936/7941, Hitag 2). Our chip data for this year is verified against two separate parts references.
The chip is what matters most to you as an owner. The truck's immobilizer looks for the chip's signal when you turn the key. If the chip is missing or was never programmed to the truck, the engine will not run, even when the blade turns the ignition cylinder without trouble. That is why a plain blade copy from a hardware store will not start this truck.
The key we work with is the OUCG8D-380H-A ID46 remote-head key. It is shared with the 2005-2006 CR-V and the 2007-2008 Fit. That is useful to know if you are comparing listings online, but do not buy one on that basis alone. Keys that look alike can still differ in blade profile or remote details, so we check yours against the truck first. A mechanical backup key is also listed for this year.
Spare key or all keys lost: how it works on this truck
The two situations are handled differently on this setup, and both are possible.
If you still have a working key, duplication is the easier route. This year needs an original key for duplication, so that key is where we start. We cut the new blade from it and program the new chip to the truck.
If every key is gone, we can still make a new one. All keys lost is possible on the 2006 Ridgeline. Without an original to copy, the blade has to be cut from the lock itself or from the truck's key information, and the new key then has to be programmed in. That takes more steps than a simple spare, which is why the two jobs are not priced alike.
- You call us at (213) 577-1366 and tell us the year, model, and whether you have a working key.
- We confirm the key against your VIN so we cut and program the right one.
- We cut the blade, either from your original key or, if all keys are lost, from the vehicle.
- We program the new transponder chip and remote to the truck through the OBD port. This year does not require NASTF SDRM access.
- We test the key in the ignition, start the engine, and check the lock and unlock buttons before we finish.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What affects the cost of a 2006 Ridgeline key?
We do not quote a number from a web page, because a few real factors decide it. For this truck they are:
- Whether you have a working key. A spare from an original is usually the more economical route. All keys lost takes more work.
- Whether you need only the key blade and chip or also a working remote, since the remote is built into the head.
- Where the truck is. A visit to our Westwood storefront is different from sending a mobile van to a parked or stranded truck.
- The condition of the ignition. If worn wafers make the key hard to turn, that has to be dealt with separately.
- The hour of the call, since we answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Common problems with 2006 Ridgeline keys
The problems we expect on this year follow from age and mileage. None of them are unusual, and some do not call for a whole new key.
- Worn ignition lock wafers on high-mileage trucks. The key may stick, turn roughly, or stop working even though the chip is fine. The fix may be on the lock rather than the key.
- Cracked remote-head shells and worn buttons. If the chip still works, the electronics can often be moved into a fresh shell instead of replacing the whole key.
- Remote battery failure. If the buttons stop working but the key still starts the truck, the battery is the first thing to check.
- Non-transponder copies. A blade with no chip may look right, but the truck will not start with it.
What we confirm by VIN, and why call us
The chip family and programming method for this year are verified, and the programming does not need NASTF SDRM access. Even so, we confirm by VIN and with the key or truck in front of us before we cut or program anything. That is simply how we avoid ordering the wrong key.
Wilshire Lock & Key has been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile vans serving 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Frequently asked questions
Does the 2006 Honda Ridgeline have a push-to-start key?
No. It uses a remote-head key with a transponder chip inside the plastic head. You put the blade in the ignition and turn it.
What transponder chip does the 2006 Ridgeline use?
The chip is in the ID46 family (PCF7936/7941, Hitag 2). This is verified for this year. We still confirm by VIN before cutting or programming a key.
Can you make a key if I lost all of my 2006 Ridgeline keys?
Yes, all keys lost is possible on this year. It takes more steps than copying a working key, because the blade is cut without an original and the new chip must be programmed to the truck.
Do I need to bring an original key to get a spare?
For duplication on this year, an original key is needed. If you have none, we handle it as an all-keys-lost job.
Will a hardware-store copy start my Ridgeline?
No. A copy with no transponder chip will not start the truck. The chip must be programmed to the truck's immobilizer.
Is dealer programming required for this year?
Based on our data, no. Programming on the 2006 Ridgeline is done through the OBD port and does not require NASTF SDRM access.
My remote stopped working but the key still starts the truck. What now?
Start with the remote battery. If that does not help, the buttons or the shell may be worn or cracked, and sometimes the electronics can be moved into a new shell.
Is the key the same as a CR-V or Fit key?
Our data lists the OUCG8D-380H-A ID46 remote-head key as shared with the 2005-2006 CR-V and 2007-2008 Fit. We still check yours by VIN before ordering or cutting.
