The 2015–2020 Fit uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Honda Fit key guide.

LX keeps a keyed ignition (MLBHLIK6-1T G-chip remote-head key); EX and above use the KR5V1X smart fob (ID47) with push-button start — pushToStart reflects the keyed base trim. There was no 2014 US model year.
What kind of key does a 2015 Honda Fit use?
The 2015 Fit came with two different key setups depending on trim, and that is the first thing we sort out on any call. The LX keeps a traditional keyed ignition. Its key is a remote-head key: a metal blade with a plastic head that holds the lock, unlock and panic buttons and a transponder chip. The EX and above use a smart fob with push-button start instead.
Both setups use the same chip family, a G-type chip (ID47, Hitag 3). That chip is why a plain hardware-store copy will turn in the door but never start the car. The engine computer looks for the chip's signal, and a blank piece of brass has no chip to give it.
Honda also built a mechanical backup key into the picture, so even if a remote or fob fails, there is a physical way to get into the car. That backup does not start a push-button car on its own; it is a way in, not a replacement for a working fob.
- LX: keyed ignition, remote-head key (MLBHLIK6-1T, G-chip)
- EX and above: KR5V1X smart fob (ID47), push-button start
- No 2014 US model year exists, so if someone calls a 2014 Fit by that year, we will check what the car really is
Spare key or all keys lost: what changes?
If you still have one working key, making a duplicate is the simpler job. For this Fit, the original key is needed to copy from, and we cut the blade and program the new chip and remote so the car accepts it. Doing this before you lose the last key is usually the more economical route, and it keeps a stressful day from happening later.
If every key is gone, that is still workable on this car. All-keys-lost is possible for the 2015 Fit. We cut a new key from the vehicle's information, then program it to the car through the OBD port under the dash. Programming this model does not require NASTF SDRM access, which means we are not stuck waiting on a dealer for the data.
All-keys-lost does take more steps than a duplicate, because there is no working key to learn from. It is a normal job for us, not an emergency exception.
How we handle a 2015 Fit key job
We run the job the same way whether you come to our Westwood storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd or we come to you in a mobile van.
- Confirm the trim: keyed LX or push-button EX and above. We ask you to check for a key slot or a start button, and we confirm against the VIN.
- Check what you have: a working key, a damaged key, a dead fob, or nothing at all.
- Cut the blade, or pull up the correct blade for the backup key, to match the car.
- Program the transponder chip and the remote functions through the OBD port.
- Test everything before you leave: start the car, run the doors and check the remote buttons.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What affects the price of a 2015 Fit key?
We do not quote numbers in a web page, because the real cost depends on your car and your situation. The main factors are listed below. When you call, we can tell you how those apply to your Fit.
- Which setup you have: a remote-head key and a smart fob are different parts.
- Duplicate or all keys lost: a duplicate starts from a key that works, while all-keys-lost involves extra steps.
- Whether you need only a new shell, a battery, or a full replacement. Cracked shells and worn buttons are common on remote-head keys, and a repair can sometimes be the lighter-cost option.
- Where the work happens: coming to our storefront is often the more economical route, while a mobile call adds travel.
- Time of day. We answer the phone around the clock, and after-hours calls are handled differently from daytime ones.
What we confirm by VIN, and who you are dealing with
The chip and programming details above are verified for this model year. What can vary is the exact trim on a specific car, since the LX and the EX-and-above cars use different keys, and previous owners sometimes had parts swapped. So we confirm by VIN and in person before we cut or program anything, rather than guess from the year alone.
Wilshire Lock & Key has been in business since 1987. We are one company with a storefront and our own vans, with no dispatch middlemen, and David oversees the work. California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith for it before they start. Frequently asked questions
Will a hardware-store copy start my 2015 Honda Fit?
No. The car needs a programmed transponder chip (ID47, Hitag 3). A plain copy without a chip may turn the lock but will not start the engine.
Can you make a key if I lost every key to my 2015 Fit?
Yes. All-keys-lost is possible for this model year. We cut a new key and program it through the OBD port, and the job does not require NASTF SDRM access.
My Fit shows 'key not detected.' What is wrong?
On push-button trims, this message often means the smart-fob battery is dead. Try a fresh battery first. If the message continues, the fob may need to be checked or replaced.
Do I need my original key to get a duplicate?
Yes, for this setup the original key is needed to duplicate from. If you have no key at all, we handle it as an all-keys-lost job.
How do I know whether I have the remote-head key or the smart fob?
If you put a key in the ignition and turn it, you have the remote-head setup, found on the LX. If you press a start button, you have the smart fob, used on EX and above. We confirm by VIN.
Can you come to me, or do I have to bring the car in?
Both work. We have a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile vans, and we answer the phone at (213) 577-1366 every hour of every day.
Why can't I find a 2014 Honda Fit?
There was no 2014 US model year for the Fit. If your paperwork or listing says 2014, we will check the VIN to see which year your car really is.
