2007 Honda Fit key replacement in Los Angeles

The 2007 Honda Fit uses a remote-head key with a transponder chip, but vendor catalogs split on which chip: Philips ID46 or Megamos 8E. We identify it from the key stamp or a chip read before cutting, then program by OBD. Call (213) 577-1366 any hour.

The 2007–2008 Fit uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Honda Fit key guide.

Vendor catalogs genuinely split for these years: most list the Philips ID46 remote-head key (OUCG8D-380H-A), but several warn that some 2007-2008 Fits use the Megamos 8E chip instead ('H' stamped on the blade, HD113 blank), and transpondery.com lists 8E for this generation. The two systems are not interchangeable — we identify from the key stamp or a chip read before cutting.

What kind of key does a 2007 Honda Fit use?

The 2007 Fit uses a remote-head key: a metal blade set into a plastic head that also carries the lock, unlock and panic buttons. It is not a push-to-start car, so there is no fob to carry in your pocket. Inside the head is a transponder chip, and the engine will not run unless the car recognizes it.

The blade also works the door lock mechanically, so a dead remote battery will not leave you standing outside the car. The chip is what matters at the ignition. This is also why a hardware-store copy is a trap on this car. It may slide into the cylinder and turn, but a non-transponder copy will not start the engine.

On a Fit this age, these are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Worn ignition lock wafers on high-mileage cars, which make a key stick, turn roughly or stop turning
  • Cracked remote-head shells and worn-out buttons
  • Remote battery failure, which is sometimes mistaken for a failed key
  • Cheap non-transponder copies that open the doors but will not start the car

Duplicate key or all keys lost: how each works on this Fit

If you still have one working key, duplicating is the simpler job. For this setup we need that original key in hand to copy from. We cut a new blade, then program the chip and remote to the car through the OBD port under the dash. No special NASTF registry access is needed for this model year, so the programming happens right where the car is parked.

If every key is gone, we can still make a new one. All-keys-lost is possible on this Fit, and it does not require towing the car to a dealer. It takes more steps, because we have no existing key to learn from and have to work from the car itself.

  1. Confirm the car is yours and that you can show ownership.
  2. Identify the correct key type, from the stamp on an existing key or by reading the chip.
  3. Cut the blade to match the door or ignition lock.
  4. Program the chip and remote to the car through the OBD port.
  5. Test every function: start, lock, unlock and panic, plus the mechanical blade in the door.

What affects the price of a 2007 Fit key?

We do not quote numbers in a web page, because the honest answer depends on your situation. These are the factors that move the cost:

  • Whether you have a working key to copy from. A duplicate is usually the more economical route, and all-keys-lost involves more work.
  • Which chip your key actually carries, since the blank and the programming data differ between the two systems.
  • Whether the remote buttons need to work, or you only need an engine-start key.
  • Where the car is. Coming to you with a mobile van is different from you bringing the car to our Westwood storefront.
  • The condition of the ignition. If worn wafers are the real problem, a new key alone will not fix it, and the cylinder may need attention.

The part we cannot confirm from a catalog

Honda Fit data for 2007 is genuinely inconsistent. Most vendors list the Philips ID46 remote-head key (part number OUCG8D-380H-A). Several warn that some 2007-2008 Fits use the Megamos 8E chip instead, which is usually marked with an H stamped on the blade and cut on an HD113 blank. At least one vendor lists 8E for this whole generation.

The two systems are not interchangeable. A key built for one will not start a car set up for the other, so we do not guess. We identify the chip from the key stamp or a chip read, and we confirm against your VIN, before anything is cut. If you are all-keys-lost, we do this at the car. We would rather tell you we are verifying than sell you the wrong blank.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 2007 Honda Fit key have a chip?

Yes. It is a remote-head key with a transponder chip, and a plain cut key will not start the car. Which chip it is, Philips ID46 or Megamos 8E, is something we confirm before cutting.

Can you make a 2007 Fit key if I lost all my keys?

Yes. All-keys-lost is possible on this car. We identify the chip system, cut the blade and program the new key through the OBD port, and we do not need NASTF registry access for it.

Will a hardware-store copy start my Fit?

No. A non-transponder copy may turn in the lock, but the engine will not start without a chip the car recognizes. It can still be useful as a plain mechanical spare for the door, but not for driving.

Why do you need my VIN or my old key?

Catalog data for 2007 Fits conflicts on the chip type. The key stamp, a chip read or the VIN lets us confirm which system your car uses before we cut a blank.

Do I need the original key to make a copy?

For duplication on this setup, yes, we need an original key to copy from. If none is left, we move to the all-keys-lost process.

My key is hard to turn. Is that the key or the car?

On high-mileage Fits it is often worn ignition lock wafers, not the key. A new key will not always fix it, so we look at the cylinder as well.

Do remote buttons need separate programming?

Programming is done over the OBD port. We test the remote functions along with starting the car, so you know what works before we leave.

We cover all these cities
