The 2007–2010 Edge uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Ford Edge key guide.

What kind of key does a 2007 Ford Edge use?
The 2007 Edge uses a transponder key with a 4D63 chip family. There is no push-to-start on this year, so you have a real key that goes into the ignition and turns. Inside the plastic head is a small chip, and the car's PATS anti-theft system has to read that chip before the engine will run.
That is why the key is a two-part job. The blade has to be cut to turn the lock, and the chip has to be programmed to the vehicle. Miss either one and the key is only half a key. The 4D63 family is confirmed for the 2007–2015 Edge by fitment listings, and these are 40-bit-era vehicles, which dual-mode 40/80-bit aftermarket chips cover.
A mechanical backup key exists for this setup. It is a physical key, but a blade alone does not start the engine without a chip the car recognizes.
Duplicate or all keys lost: what changes on this Edge?
Both are possible on a 2007 Edge, and both are done with programming through the OBD port. No special NASTF SDRM access is required for this year, which keeps the process simpler than on some newer vehicles.
The difference is the starting point. To duplicate a key, we need an original working key to copy from. If you still have one, make the spare before you lose it; that is usually the more economical route. If every key is gone, we can still make a new one, but the job takes more steps because there is no existing key to work from.
- You call (213) 577-1366 and tell us the year, model, and whether you have any working key.
- We confirm the vehicle by VIN and, where possible, in person, so the blade and chip match your Edge.
- We cut the blade to fit the locks and ignition.
- We program the chip to the vehicle through the OBD port.
- We test the key in the doors and ignition and check that the engine starts and stays running.
What affects the price of a 2007 Edge key?
We don't quote numbers on a web page, because the real answer depends on your situation. These are the factors that move the cost:
- Duplicate versus all keys lost. Copying from a working key is lighter on labor than building a key from nothing.
- How many keys you need programmed. A second key made in the same visit is usually more economical than a separate trip later.
- Blade condition. A badly worn key or ignition may need extra work before a new key behaves.
- Where the car is. If it can't be moved, we come to you with a mobile van; if you can bring it, our Westwood storefront is an option.
- Chip type. We match the chip to your Edge, and that part is confirmed by VIN.

Call (213) 577-1366Common 2007 Edge key problems we see
The problems below are the known trouble spots on this year, and each one points to a different fix.
- Worn ignition lock wafers on high-mileage vehicles. The key sticks or won't turn. A new key may not cure a worn ignition, so we check both.
- Worn 8-cut key blades that stop turning the locks. A fresh cut from the right code or a good original often solves this.
- PATS theft light flashing. The engine cranks but won't start because the chip isn't being read. This points to a chip or programming issue, not a dead battery.
- Hardware-store copies with no transponder. They open the doors but will not start the engine. The chip still needs programming.
What we confirm by VIN, and why call us
The 4D63 chip family for this Edge is verified through fitment listings, but we still confirm by VIN and in person before cutting or programming anything. If something doesn't match what we expect, we tell you plainly instead of guessing.
Wilshire Lock & Key has been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile vans serving 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. You reach one company, not a dispatch middleman, and David, the owner and lead technician, oversees the work. California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith for it before they start.

Frequently asked questions
Does a 2007 Ford Edge have a push-to-start system?
No. The 2007 Edge uses a transponder key that goes into the ignition and turns. It carries a 4D63-family chip that the car must recognize before the engine starts.
Can you make a key if I lost every key to my 2007 Edge?
Yes. All-keys-lost is possible on this year, and programming is done through the OBD port. It involves more steps than copying a working key, so it is usually the heavier-cost route.
Do I need my original key to get a duplicate?
Yes, a duplicate requires an original working key to copy from. If you have only one key, get a spare made now rather than waiting until it is lost or worn out.
Why won't my copied key start the car if it opens the doors?
The copy was likely cut without a programmed transponder chip. The blade can turn the locks, but PATS must read the chip before the engine will start. The chip has to be programmed to your Edge.
What does a flashing PATS theft light mean?
If the engine cranks but won't start and the theft light flashes, the car is probably not reading the chip in the key. We check the key and the programming rather than assuming the battery or starter is the cause.
My key sticks or won't turn in the ignition. Is the key the problem?
Sometimes. High-mileage Edges can have worn ignition lock wafers, and worn 8-cut blades can also stop turning the locks. We inspect both, because a new key won't fix a worn ignition by itself.
Will you come to me, or do I need to bring the Edge in?
Either works. We have mobile vans that serve 140 cities, and a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood. Call (213) 577-1366, answered 24 hours a day, to arrange it.
