The 2004–2010 Sienna uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Toyota Sienna key guide.

First XL20 year: TOY44D 'dot' catalog fitment starts at 2004 (some chip listings start at 2005) — the small dot stamp on the blade confirms it.
What kind of key does a 2004 Sienna use?
The 2004 Sienna uses a transponder key with a 4D-67 chip. There is no push-to-start and no smart key on this year. It is a metal-blade key with a chip sealed inside the plastic head. The van will only start when the immobilizer reads that chip and recognizes it. The blade also works the locks mechanically.
For an owner, that means a plain copy from a hardware store is a trap. It may look right and may even turn in the ignition, but the van will not start, because the chip was never programmed to the car. We see this often with older vans that have been handed down or bought used with one key.
The 4D-67 chip family for this year is verified against two parts-supplier sources, so we are not guessing about it.
Spare key or all keys lost: how we handle each
The two situations are different jobs on this van, and the first thing we ask is how many working keys you have.
If you still have one working key, we can duplicate from it. This is the usual route and the more economical one, because the original key is needed for the simplest copy. If you have none, an all-keys-lost job is still possible on this setup. It just takes more steps.
- You call (213) 577-1366 and tell us the year, model, and how many keys you have. Someone answers around the clock.
- We ask for proof you own the van and for photo ID before any key is made.
- We cut the blade to fit your locks. With a key in hand, we copy it. If all are lost, we cut from the van's lock and VIN information.
- We program the new 4D-67 key to the van through the OBD port under the dash. This method does not need special NASTF SDRM access.
- We test the key in the door, the ignition, and a full start before we call it finished.
What affects the cost of a 2004 Sienna key?
We do not quote numbers on a web page, because the real answer depends on your situation. These are the things that move the cost:
- Whether you have a working key to copy from, or this is an all-keys-lost job.
- How many keys you want made and programmed in one visit.
- Whether the van comes to us at the Westwood storefront or we drive to you with a mobile van.
- The condition of the locks and ignition. A worn blade or tired ignition may need more work than a cut and a program.
- The time of day. We answer 24 hours, and an after-hours call is handled differently from a daytime one.
- Whether the key you bring is a real transponder key or a non-transponder copy that has to be replaced.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366Worn keys and tired ignitions on older Siennas
Three problems come up on this year. First, high-mileage vans can have worn ignition wafers, so the key feels loose or sticks in the cylinder. Second, a worn key blade may stop turning the lock at all. Third, non-transponder copies will never start the car.
If your old key is worn, copying it can carry the wear into the new key. We would rather talk it through with you and look at the key and the lock before cutting anything. Sometimes a fresh key cut properly solves the problem, and sometimes the ignition needs attention too. We will tell you which we think it is.
What we confirm by VIN before we cut
The 2004 model year is the first of this generation of Sienna, and the parts catalogs do not agree perfectly on the start date. The TOY44D dot-style key fitment begins at 2004, but some chip listings start at 2005. That is a catalog difference, not a problem with your van.
We handle it simply. Check the blade of your existing key for a small dot stamp, which confirms the fitment. We also confirm by VIN and in person before we cut or program, rather than trusting a catalog line. If anything about your van comes up different, we will say so plainly.
Why call Wilshire Lock & Key
We have been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile service vans. You deal with one company, not a dispatch service that passes the job to a stranger. David, the owner and lead technician, oversees the work.
California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license. Ask any locksmith for it before they start, including us. We serve 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Frequently asked questions
Does a 2004 Toyota Sienna have a push-to-start key?
No. It uses a transponder key with a metal blade and a 4D-67 chip. You put the key in the ignition and turn it.
Can you make a 2004 Sienna key if I lost all of them?
Yes, an all-keys-lost job is possible on this van. We program the new key through the OBD port. It takes more steps than copying from a working key, and we will need proof of ownership and ID.
Why will my hardware-store copy not start the van?
A non-transponder copy has no chip, so the immobilizer never recognizes it. It may turn in the lock, but the van will not start until a programmed transponder key is used.
Do I need the original key to get a copy made?
For a straightforward duplicate, yes. The original key is needed for that route. If you have no key, we handle it as an all-keys-lost job instead.
Where do I find the dot stamp on my key?
Look at the blade of your existing key for a small dot stamp. It helps confirm the TOY44D fitment. We still confirm by VIN and in person before cutting.
Will you come to me, or do I bring the van in?
Either works. We have a storefront in Westwood and mobile service vans. Call (213) 577-1366 and we will work out which is easier for your situation.
My key is worn and sticks in the ignition. Is a new key enough?
Sometimes. High-mileage Siennas can have worn ignition wafers, and a worn blade can also stop the lock turning. We look at both the key and the ignition before deciding what is needed.
