The 2014–2019 Corolla uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Toyota Corolla key guide.

TOY44H bladed key with the 128-bit H chip; smart-key/push-button trims use Toyota's 8A smart system instead.
What kind of key does a 2014 Corolla use?
The 2014 Corolla is a traditional bladed-key car. The key is a TOY44H blade with a transponder chip inside the plastic head. The chip belongs to the H family, a 128-bit DST-AES design. The car is not push-to-start, so there is no proximity fob to deal with on the standard setup.
What that means for you: a key has to be two things at once. The blade must be cut to match your locks and ignition, and the chip must be programmed to your car's immobilizer. If either half is missing, the car will not run. A hardware-store copy that is only cut metal may turn the ignition, but it will not start the engine. That is one of the most common problems with this car, and a blank without the right chip does not fix it.
The Corolla also has a mechanical backup key. That is useful to know, because the metal blade can still open the door and turn the lock if the electronics are ever an issue. It does not replace a programmed key for starting the engine.
One caution. Toyota's smart-key and push-button trims use a different system, called the 8A smart system, rather than this H-chip blade key. If your Corolla has a push-button start, tell us when you call. We will confirm what your car needs by VIN before cutting or programming anything.
Duplicate key or all keys lost: how does it work on this car?
Both situations are possible on a 2014 Corolla, and neither needs a trip to the dealer for this setup.
If you still have a working key, we duplicate it. The original key is needed for that route, because we copy from it. This is usually the more economical way to get a spare, and it is worth doing before a lone key goes missing.
If every key is gone, we can still make a new one. The key is cut for the car and the chip is programmed through the OBD port. Programming for this model does not call for NASTF SDRM access, so it is work we handle ourselves.
- Call (213) 577-1366 and tell us the year, model, and whether you have any working key.
- We confirm the key type for your car, by VIN where needed, so the right blank and chip are used.
- We cut the TOY44H blade to match your car.
- We program the H-chip key to the car through the OBD port.
- We test the key in the ignition, the door lock, and a full start before we hand it over.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What affects the cost of a 2014 Corolla key?
We do not quote numbers in a web page, because the real answer depends on your situation. These are the factors that move the cost:
- Whether you have a working key to copy, or all keys are lost. Duplicating is usually the lighter-cost job.
- How many keys you need cut and programmed. A spare made during the same visit is simpler than a second trip.
- Where the car is. If it can't be driven, a mobile van visit to you may make more sense than towing it to our storefront.
- Whether the ignition or lock is worn. If it is, the new key may not work smoothly until that is dealt with.
- Whether your Corolla is the standard bladed-key setup or a smart-key trim, which uses a different system and is a different job.
Worn keys and worn ignitions
The data on this model points to two wear problems. High-mileage cars can have worn ignition wafers, the small parts inside the lock cylinder that read the key's cuts. A worn key blade can also stop turning the lock properly.
If your key sticks, only turns with wiggling, or has gone smooth at the edges, it is better to replace it before it fails completely. A fresh key cut to the original code may turn the lock where the old copy could not. If the ignition itself is the problem, we will tell you that plainly rather than selling you a key that will not fix it.
Why call Wilshire Lock & Key
We have been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile service vans. You talk to one company, not a dispatch middleman, and David oversees the work as owner and lead technician. We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and serve 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith for that number before work begins. For more on what we do for Toyota owners, see our Toyota car key page, the Corolla overview, or the full list of car key services. You can also contact us with your VIN and we will confirm your car's setup.
Frequently asked questions
Does a 2014 Toyota Corolla have a transponder key?
Yes. The standard setup is a TOY44H bladed key with a 128-bit H-family transponder chip. It is not a push-to-start system.
Can I get a 2014 Corolla key made if I lost all my keys?
Yes. All-keys-lost is possible for this setup. We cut a new key and program it through the OBD port. Call (213) 577-1366 and we will confirm the details for your car.
Will a hardware-store copy start my Corolla?
No. A copy without a programmed transponder chip may fit the lock, but it will not start the engine. The chip has to be programmed to the car.
Do you need my original key to make a duplicate?
Yes, duplication starts from a working original key. If you have no key at all, the job is an all-keys-lost replacement instead.
Does programming this key need special dealer-only access?
No. For this setup, programming is done through the OBD port and does not require NASTF SDRM access. Your Corolla does not need to go to the dealer for a standard bladed key.
What if my Corolla has a push-button start?
Smart-key and push-button trims use Toyota's 8A smart system, not the H-chip blade key. Give us your VIN and we will confirm what your car needs before any work starts.
My key is worn and barely turns. Should I replace it?
Usually yes. A worn blade can stop turning the lock. If the ignition wafers are worn on a high-mileage car, we will check that too, since a new key alone may not solve it.
Can you come to me, or do I need to bring the car in?
We have a storefront in Westwood and mobile service vans, so either works. Call us and we will work out which makes more sense for your situation.
