The 2010–2011 Corolla uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Toyota Corolla key guide.

Mixed boundary years: catalogs list both the 4D-67 'dot' and the 80-bit G chip for 2010-2011 Corollas (transpondery.com shows both chips for these years, and G-chip GQ4-29T remote-head listings start anywhere from 2008 to 2010) — we confirm from the G stamp on the blade or by VIN before cutting.
What key does a 2010 Corolla use?
The 2010 Corolla takes a remote-head key. The blade, the transponder chip, and the remote buttons are all in one piece, and there is no push-to-start system on this year. You put a metal key in the ignition and turn it. There is also a mechanical backup key for the car, which matters if the remote side ever fails.
What that means for you is simple. The blade turning in the ignition is not enough. The car also has to recognize the chip inside the key before it will start. That is why a plain copy from a hardware store, with no transponder in it, will open the door and turn in the ignition but will not start the engine. We see people pay for that kind of copy and still be stuck, so it is worth knowing before you spend anything.
Common problems on this year are cracked remote-head shells, worn-out buttons, and dead remote batteries. Not all of these need a new key. A dead remote battery is a small fix. A cracked shell can sometimes be handled by moving the electronics into a new shell, if the internals are still sound. When we look at the key we will tell you which situation you are in.
Duplicate key or all keys lost: how each works
If you still have a working key, making a duplicate is the more straightforward job. For this setup the original key needs to be present, and we cut a new blade and program the new key to the car. Programming on the 2010 Corolla is done through the OBD port. The data we work from does not list NASTF SDRM access as a requirement for this year.
If you have lost every key, that is still possible to solve. We cut a new key from the car's information, then program it through the OBD port so the car accepts it. It is a bigger job than a duplicate, and the car has to be with us, or we come to it with the mobile van. Do not try to tow the car to a dealer by default. Call first and ask what your situation needs.
- Spare key in hand: duplicate and program the new key.
- No working key: all-keys-lost process, cut and programmed on site.
- Remote works but key will not start the car: the chip, not the remote, is the likely issue, so say that when you call.
- Remote is dead but the key starts the car: often just the battery or the shell.

Call (213) 577-1366One thing we confirm instead of guess
Here is the honest part. 2010 sits on a boundary for this model. Parts catalogs list two different transponder chips for 2010 and 2011 Corollas, the older 4D-67 "dot" chip and the newer 80-bit G chip. The remote-head listings that use the G chip start in different years depending on the catalog, anywhere from 2008 to 2010. So we cannot give you a single chip type for your car from a chart, and we will not pretend to.
What we do is check before cutting anything. Often the G stamp on the blade tells us which chip family the key belongs to. If that is worn or missing, we confirm by VIN, and the car itself tells us what it expects. That check is quick, and it keeps you from buying the wrong key blank.
What affects the price of a 2010 Corolla key?
We do not quote numbers on a web page, because the real answer depends on your car and situation. Here is what moves the cost:
- Duplicate versus all keys lost. Having an original key to work from makes the job simpler.
- Which chip your car takes. Because 2010 is a boundary year, the correct key blank depends on what we confirm from the stamp or VIN.
- Whether you need a full remote-head key or only a new shell or battery.
- Where the work happens: at our Westwood storefront or with a mobile van at your car.
- Time of day. We answer the phone around the clock, and after-hours calls can change the scheduling.
Why call Wilshire Lock & Key
We have been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles (Westwood) and mobile vans that cover 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. When you call, you reach us, not a dispatch middleman who passes the job to a stranger. David, the owner and lead technician, oversees the work.
California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license. Ask any locksmith for that number before work starts, including us. Frequently asked questions
Does the 2010 Toyota Corolla have a push-to-start key?
No. It uses a remote-head key with a metal blade that goes in the ignition. The remote buttons are part of the key head.
Can I use a hardware-store copy of my Corolla key?
It will not start the car if it has no transponder chip. A non-transponder copy may turn in the lock, but the car will not recognize it.
Can you make a key if I lost all my 2010 Corolla keys?
Yes, all keys lost is possible for this car. We cut a new key and program it through the OBD port, either at our storefront or with a mobile van.
Do I need my original key to get a duplicate?
For this setup, yes, the original key needs to be present to duplicate it. If you have no working key, the all-keys-lost process applies instead.
Which transponder chip does my 2010 Corolla use?
It is not certain from charts alone. Catalogs list both the 4D-67 chip and the 80-bit G chip for 2010 and 2011 Corollas, so we confirm from the G stamp on the blade or by your VIN before cutting.
Is my broken key shell worth replacing, or do I need a new key?
Sometimes a cracked shell or worn buttons can be fixed by moving the internals into a new shell. If the internals are damaged or the chip is not usable, a new key is the better route. We tell you which applies once we see the key.
