The 2007–2019 Sentra uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Nissan Sentra key guide.

What kind of key does a 2007 Sentra use?
The 2007 Sentra has a keyed ignition, not push-to-start. The key is a bladed, NI04T-style key with an ID46 (Philips Hitag-2) transponder chip sealed inside the plastic head. The remote that locks and unlocks the doors is a separate piece, not built into the key. That chip family is verified for this model year.
What that means for you: the blade has to be cut correctly to turn the ignition, and the chip has to be programmed to the car's immobilizer before the engine will run. A key that turns the cylinder but has no matching chip may crank and then die, or do nothing at all. There is also a mechanical backup key for this car, which is useful to know if the remote or the chip side of things gives you trouble.
- Keyed ignition, no push-to-start on the standard setup
- ID46 (Philips Hitag-2) chip, verified
- Separate remote, so a key and a remote are two different jobs
- Programming is done through the OBD port, and no NASTF SDRM access is required for this setup
Duplicate key or all keys lost: how does it differ?
If you still have one working key, making a copy is the simpler job. For this Sentra an original key is needed to clone from, so bring it with you, or we bring our van to wherever the car is parked. We cut a new blade, program the chip to the car, and test that it starts the engine and turns the locks before we leave.
If every key is gone, it is still possible. All-keys-lost replacement is available for this setup. We cut a key to the ignition from the car itself, then program a fresh transponder through the OBD port. It takes more steps than a copy, which is why it usually costs more, but you do not need a tow to a dealer just because the last key disappeared.
One warning about shortcuts: a hardware-store copy cut without a transponder will open the door and may turn the ignition, but it will not start the engine. That is one of the most common complaints on these cars, and it is why we program the chip rather than only cutting the metal.
- Call (213) 577-1366 and tell us the year, model, and whether you have any working key.
- We confirm the key setup for your car, including trim details, and tell you what the job involves.
- We come to you with a mobile van, or you can visit the storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood.
- We cut the blade, program the ID46 chip through the OBD port, and pair any remote you need.
- We test the key in the ignition, the door locks, and the remote before you pay.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What goes wrong with these keys and cars?
On high-mileage Sentras, the usual trouble is wear: worn ignition wafers and worn key blades. A tired blade in a tired ignition can feel loose or stick, and sometimes a fresh key fixes the problem, while other times the ignition cylinder needs attention. We will tell you which one you are dealing with rather than sell you a part you do not need.
The remote side has its own failures: cracked key shells, broken remote buttons, and dead remote batteries. A dead battery is the lighter-cost fix, so check that first if the buttons just stopped responding. A cracked shell or worn-out buttons usually means replacing the shell or the remote, and the chip can often be kept in service if it is intact.
What affects the price of a 2007 Sentra key?
We do not quote numbers on a web page, because the real figure depends on your situation. These are the things that move it:
- Duplicate versus all keys lost: cloning from a working key is less work than starting from nothing.
- How many keys you need, and whether you want a remote paired as well.
- Whether the problem is only the key, or also a worn ignition or damaged blade that has to be dealt with.
- Whether we come to you or you come to the storefront, and the time of day you need service.
- Your trim level and which key system the car actually has, which we verify before starting.
What we confirm by VIN
The data for this year is verified for the standard bladed ID46 key. The one open point is trim: some upper trims offered the Nissan Intelligent Key entry system, and whether yours has it is confirmed vehicle by vehicle. If you are not sure what you have, give us the VIN when you call, or we check the car in person, and we will tell you before any work starts if your Sentra is not the standard setup.
We have worked on locks and keys in Los Angeles since 1987. You deal with one company, with a storefront and our own mobile vans, not a dispatcher passing your call along. David oversees the work. California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith for it before they start. Frequently asked questions
Does a 2007 Nissan Sentra need a transponder key?
Yes. It uses an ID46 (Philips Hitag-2) transponder chip, and the key must be programmed to the car. A plain cut key will not start the engine.
Can you make a key if I lost all my 2007 Sentra keys?
Yes, all-keys-lost replacement is possible for this setup. We cut a key to the car and program a new transponder through the OBD port.
Do I need to bring my original key?
For a duplicate, yes, an original key is needed. If you have no key at all, we handle it as an all-keys-lost job instead.
Is the remote part of the key on this Sentra?
On the standard setup, no. The remote is separate from the bladed key, so a remote problem and a key problem are handled separately.
Why won't my hardware-store copy start the car?
The copy has the right cuts but no programmed chip. The immobilizer does not recognize it, so the engine will not run.
Does my Sentra have the Intelligent Key instead?
Most use the bladed key, but some upper trims offered Nissan Intelligent Key entry. Give us your VIN or let us check the car, and we confirm before starting.
Do I have to go to a dealer?
Not for the standard setup. Programming is done through the OBD port without NASTF SDRM access, so we can do it at your location or at our Westwood storefront.
