The 2023–2024 Tucson uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Hyundai Tucson key guide.

What kind of key does a 2023 Tucson use?
The 2023 Tucson is an immobilizer car. Hyundai made the immobilizer standard from November 2021 production, so a 2023 does not start on a cut piece of metal alone. The car has to recognize a chip in the key before the engine will run. The chip family for this year is ID47, also called Hitag 3, and that is verified against supplier hardware listings.
Most owners find this out the hard way. A cheap copy from a hardware store often turns the lock and opens the doors, then does nothing in the ignition. The blade is right, but the chip is missing, so the car stays locked out of starting.
Your Tucson also has a mechanical backup key. If you drive a smart-key trim, the fob carries a small blade inside it that can open the door when the fob is dead. That backup is worth knowing about, because it can get you into the car even when the electronics will not cooperate.
Duplicate key or all keys lost: what changes?
For this setup, making a copy normally starts with an original key. If you still have one working key, we can cut and program a spare from it. That is the more straightforward situation and usually the more economical route.
If every key is gone, that is still workable. All-keys-lost replacement is possible on the 2023 Tucson. It takes more steps because we have no working key to start from, so we build the new key from the car's information and then program it to the immobilizer.
Programming is done through the OBD port under the dash. Our data shows no NASTF SDRM secure-access requirement for this year, so we do not have to wait on a special credential before starting. If you only have one key left, my advice is to make a spare now rather than wait until you are stranded.
How we handle a 2023 Tucson key job
The steps below are the general sequence. Details shift with which key your car has.
- You call (213) 577-1366. We ask for your VIN, the trim, and whether you have any working key.
- We work out whether you have a bladed transponder key or a smart-key fob, since the two are handled differently.
- We cut the blade, or prepare the fob, and match it to the car.
- We program the new key to the immobilizer through the OBD port.
- We test every key you hand us: the doors, the ignition or start function, and the remote buttons.
- If an old key is failing or acting intermittently, we point that out so you are not left with a weak spare.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What affects the price of a Tucson key?
We do not quote numbers in a web page, because the real cost depends on your situation. These are the factors that move it:
- Whether you have a working key to copy from, or all keys are lost.
- Bladed transponder key versus smart-key fob. They are different parts with different programming work.
- Whether a key you already own has a poor-quality or cloned chip that needs to be replaced rather than reused.
- How many keys you want made in one visit.
- Where the car is. A car we come to costs us more effort than one driven to our Westwood storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd.
- Whether a worn ignition is making keys hard to turn, which can add repair work.
What we confirm by VIN, and why call us
There is one thing the data does not settle. Smart-key trims use ID47 fobs, which several 2022 to 2024 OEM listings show. But the chip in the base bladed key is not separately catalogued, so we identify it on your car instead of guessing. Give us your VIN and we confirm which key you have before ordering anything.
Also expect a few common problems. High-mileage Tucsons can have worn ignition wafers. Aftermarket chips can fail intermittently. If a smart-key trim says 'key not detected', try a fresh fob battery first, then call us.
We have been in business since 1987, with a storefront and mobile vans. The same company answers the phone, sends the tech, and does the work, with no dispatch middlemen. David oversees the work. California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, so ask any locksmith for it. Frequently asked questions
Can you make a 2023 Hyundai Tucson key if I lost every key?
Yes. All-keys-lost replacement is possible for this year. We cut a key, then program it through the OBD port. Have your VIN and proof of ownership ready.
Will a hardware-store copy start my 2023 Tucson?
Usually not. The car is an immobilizer model, so a key cut without a working chip may open the doors but will not start the engine.
Does the 2023 Tucson have a push-to-start key?
Some trims do and some use a bladed transponder key. The base key's chip is identified on the car, so we confirm by VIN before we order or program anything.
What chip does the 2023 Tucson use?
The verified chip family is ID47 (Hitag 3). Smart-key trims use ID47 fobs. For the base bladed key, we check the car itself.
My Tucson says 'key not detected'. Do I need a new key?
Not always. On smart-key trims, a dead fob battery is a common cause. Try a fresh battery first. If the message continues, the fob may need testing or replacing.
Do I need to bring the car to you?
No. We have a storefront in Westwood and mobile vans, so we can come to the car. Call (213) 577-1366, answered 24 hours a day.
