The 2014–2017 Odyssey uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Honda Odyssey key guide.

Bladed trims moved to the Honda G chip for 2014 (MLBHLIK6-1T); Touring/Elite use the KR5V1X smart fob (ID47) with push-button start — pushToStart reflects the keyed trims.
What key does a 2014 Odyssey use, and what does that mean for you?
The 2014 model year is a split. Most Odysseys with a keyed ignition use a remote-head key: a metal blade with a transponder chip and the lock, unlock and sliding-door buttons built into the same head. For 2014, Honda moved these bladed trims to the G chip family, which is ID47 (Hitag 3). The key most of these cars use is the MLBHLIK6-1T. Touring and Elite trims are different. They use the KR5V1X smart fob, also ID47, with push-button start and no key in the ignition.
What that means in practice: the chip inside the key has to be recognized by the van before it will start. A plain blade cut at a hardware store will turn the lock but will not start the engine, because it has no transponder. Owners run into this more than anything else with this van.
Beyond that, the problems we see on this year are ordinary wear:
- Cracked remote-head shells and worn-through buttons
- A dead remote battery, which is usually a simple fix and not a sign the key has failed
- On push-button trims, a dead smart-fob battery, where the dash reports that the key is not detected
- Copies made without a transponder that open the door but will not start the van
Duplicate key or all keys lost: how does it work on this Odyssey?
If you still have a working key, duplicating is the simpler path. For this setup an original key is needed to copy from. We cut the blade, add a correct transponder, and program it to the van. Programming on this year is done through the OBD port, and it does not require the NASTF SDRM secure-access registry, so it is work we can do at the van without sending you to a dealer.
If every key is gone, that is still possible to solve. All-keys-lost is supported for this Odyssey. We work from the van itself, cut a new key to the lock, and program the new key through the OBD port. It takes more steps than a duplicate because there is no existing key to work from, but you do not have to tow the van to a dealer just to start the process.
There is also a mechanical backup key for this vehicle. If you have never found it, check before you assume you are in all-keys-lost territory. It is worth knowing where it is, even if you carry the smart fob day to day.
- Call (213) 577-1366 and tell us the trim and whether you have any working key.
- We confirm the key type for your van, by VIN if needed.
- We cut the blade, or prepare the smart fob, and match the ID47 transponder.
- We program the key to the van through the OBD port and test every function.

We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What affects the price of a 2014 Odyssey key?
We do not quote numbers in a web page, because the real cost depends on your situation. These are the things that move it:
- Key type: a remote-head key and a Touring or Elite smart fob are different parts, and they cost different amounts to supply.
- Duplicate versus all keys lost: all keys lost involves more labor than copying from a working key.
- How many keys you need programmed in the same visit.
- Where the van is. Because we have mobile vans, we can come to you, and the location of the job is part of the picture.
- Condition of what you already have: sometimes a new shell or battery fixes the issue and a whole new key is not needed. That is usually the more economical route when it applies.
What we confirm by VIN before cutting anything
The data for this year is verified for the G chip on bladed trims and for the smart fob on Touring and Elite. Even so, trim level is the deciding factor, and some vans have had keys replaced over the years. So we confirm by VIN and by looking at the key or ignition in person before we order or cut anything. If a particular case turns out to need something that only a dealer can supply, we will tell you plainly instead of starting work we cannot finish.

Frequently asked questions
Can a hardware-store copy start my 2014 Odyssey?
No. The van needs a transponder chip, ID47 (Hitag 3) on this year. A blade-only copy may open the door but will not start the engine.
I lost every key to my 2014 Odyssey. Can you still make one?
Yes. All keys lost is possible for this van. We cut a new key and program it through the OBD port. We confirm trim and key type by VIN first.
Does my Odyssey have push-button start?
It depends on the trim. Touring and Elite use a KR5V1X smart fob with push-button start. The keyed trims use a remote-head key with the ignition.
The dash says key not detected. Is the fob broken?
On push-button trims, this message often points to a dead smart-fob battery. Try a fresh battery first. If the message continues, call us and we will check the fob.
Do I need an original key to make a duplicate?
Yes, for this setup an original key is needed to duplicate from. Without one, we handle it as all keys lost.
Do you need a dealer to program the key?
No. Programming on this year is done through the OBD port and does not require NASTF SDRM access. If a particular van needs something dealer-only, we will say so up front.
Can you come to me, or do I need to bring the van?
We have mobile vans and a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood. Call (213) 577-1366 and we will work out which makes sense for your situation. You can also browse our car key services.
