The 2019–2023 Ranger uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Ford Ranger key guide.

Returned US Ranger: base trucks use the H128-PT bladed key (128-bit Hitag Pro), XLT a 4-button flip (N5F-A08TDA, 164-R8134, confirmed 128-bit), and Lariat a smart proximity fob with push-button start.
What kind of key does a 2019 Ford Ranger use?
The 2019 Ranger is a transponder-key truck. Inside the plastic head is a 128-bit chip (NXP Hitag Pro, PCF7939F family), and the truck's PATS anti-theft system has to read that chip before the engine will keep running. A key that is only cut to match the blade will turn in the ignition, but it will not start the truck.
What you are holding depends on trim. On the returned U.S. Ranger, base trucks use a bladed key (H128-PT, 128-bit Hitag Pro). The XLT uses a 4-button flip key (N5F-A08TDA, 164-R8134, confirmed 128-bit). The Lariat uses a smart proximity fob with push-button start. If you are not sure which one your truck has, look at it: a plain bladed head, a blade that folds out of a fob, or a fob with no blade you ever insert.
Every version has a mechanical backup key, so even the fob-style setup has a physical way into the truck.
- Base trim: bladed transponder key
- XLT: 4-button flip key with a folding blade
- Lariat: proximity fob with push-button start
- All three are 128-bit; programming is done through the OBD port
Can you duplicate a Ranger key, or is it all keys lost?
Both are possible on this truck. Duplication needs an original key to work from. With one working key in hand, we cut a new blade and program the new chip to the truck. That is almost always the more economical route, so if you have only one key left, make the spare before you lose it.
If every key is gone, we can still make you a new one. The Ranger's programming is done through the OBD port, and it does not require access to the NASTF secure database. We cut the key from the truck's lock or VIN information, then program it so the PATS system accepts it. The truck stays where it is; our mobile vans come to you, and the storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd handles keys you can bring in.
One mechanical detail matters here. The high-security, side-milled blades on these keys need a specialty machine to duplicate. A hardware-store kiosk usually cannot cut them cleanly, and a poorly cut blade wears the ignition and door locks. We cut them on the right equipment.
What problems do 2019 Ranger owners run into?
Most calls about this truck fall into a few patterns, and they are worth recognizing because they point to different fixes.
- Broken flip-key hinges and worn shells. The folding mechanism on the XLT-style key takes years of pocket wear. Often the chip inside is fine and can be moved to a new shell, but we check before promising that.
- Fob battery failure. If the buttons stop responding but the key still starts the truck, it is usually just the battery.
- PATS theft light flashing. If the engine cranks but will not start and the security light flashes, the truck is not reading the chip. That can be a damaged key, an unprogrammed key, or a different fault, and we diagnose it before programming anything.
- Worn side-milled blades that stick or will not turn smoothly in the ignition.

Call (213) 577-1366What affects the price of a 2019 Ranger key?
We do not quote numbers on a web page because the real figure depends on your truck and your situation. These are the things that move it:
- Which key you have: a bladed key, a flip key, and a proximity fob are different parts with different costs.
- Duplicate or all keys lost. Copying from a working key takes less work than building a key from scratch.
- Whether you just need a new shell or battery rather than a full replacement key.
- Where the truck is. A van visit to you differs from bringing the key to the storefront.
- Time of day. Our line is answered around the clock, and after-hours calls involve more than a daytime appointment.
- How many keys you want made in one visit.
- Call (213) 577-1366 and tell us the trim and what happened to the key.
- We confirm the key type from your VIN and ask about spares.
- We give you the cost for your situation before work starts.
- We cut, program, and test every key, including starting the truck.
What we confirm by VIN before we start
The data on the 2019 Ranger is verified for the chip family and the OBD programming method, but the key assignments by trim come from a returned-U.S.-model reference. Trucks can vary by market, option package, or a replacement made during their life. A previous owner may have swapped in a different key style. So we check your VIN and the key itself before ordering parts, rather than guessing from the trim name alone.
One more thing to be upfront about: the proximity fob on the Lariat uses push-button start, while the other trims use a key in the ignition. If your truck's trim is unclear, we confirm in person.
Wilshire Lock & Key has been in business since 1987, with one storefront and our own mobile vans, so the person who answers the phone is not a dispatch middleman. David oversees the work. California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith for it before they touch your truck.

Frequently asked questions
Does a 2019 Ford Ranger have a push-to-start ignition?
It depends on trim. Base and XLT trucks use a key in the ignition. The Lariat uses a smart proximity fob with push-button start. We confirm by VIN before ordering a key.
Can you make a 2019 Ranger key if I lost all of them?
Yes. All-keys-lost is possible on this truck. We program through the OBD port and do not need NASTF secure-database access, then cut the blade and test the key in the truck.
Do I need my original key to get a copy?
Duplication works from an original key, and it is usually the more economical route. If you have no key at all, we handle it as an all-keys-lost job instead.
Why will my Ranger crank but not start?
If the PATS theft light flashes while the engine cranks, the truck is not reading the chip in the key. Causes include a damaged or unprogrammed key. We diagnose before programming.
Can a broken flip key be repaired instead of replaced?
Often the chip inside is fine and can be moved into a new shell. We check the chip first. If the chip or blade is damaged, a new key is needed.
Why can't any shop cut my Ranger key?
The high-security, side-milled blades need a specialty machine. Basic key machines often cannot duplicate them accurately, which can wear your locks.
Do you come to me, or do I bring the truck in?
Both work. Our mobile vans come to you, and our Westwood storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd takes keys in person. Call (213) 577-1366 any hour.
