The 2024–2026 Traverse uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Chevrolet Traverse key guide.

YG0G21TB2 smart fob (CR2450 battery). 2024+ key programming is validated online through GM's servers — All-keys-lost on this electrical architecture may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) with NASTF VSP-credentialed tooling or dealer service depending on the tool — confirmed per job.
What kind of key does a 2024 Chevrolet Traverse use?
The 2024 Traverse comes with a smart proximity fob, push-to-start, listed as YG0G21TB2 and powered by a CR2450 coin battery. Inside is a Hitag Pro transponder chip (ID49, 128-bit). Because the car looks for that chip electronically, a fob cannot simply be cut and copied like an old bladed key. It has to be programmed to your vehicle.
There is also a mechanical emergency blade hidden inside the fob. That matters more than most owners realize. When the fob battery runs down, the dash reports 'no remote detected,' but the blade still opens the door. A dead battery is not a lost key, so swap the battery first, and check your owner's manual for the backup starting method, before you assume you need a new fob.
The problems we hear about most on this setup are:
- A dead fob battery and the 'no remote detected' message
- The cost of a lost-fob replacement, which runs higher than it did with older bladed keys
- Fobs that were soaked in water or crushed
Can you make a spare, or only replace a key after all keys are lost?
Both are possible on this vehicle, and the difference is real. For a duplicate, the original working key needs to be present. We program the new fob to the truck through the OBD port, and you leave with two working fobs.
All keys lost is also possible, but it is a bigger job. Key programming on 2024 and newer GM vehicles is validated online through GM's servers. Depending on the tool, an all-keys-lost job on this electrical architecture may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) with NASTF VSP-credentialed tooling, or it may need dealer service. We confirm which route applies to your vehicle per job rather than promise one up front.
Here is how a typical call goes:
- You call and give us the VIN, and tell us whether you still have any working fob.
- We confirm you own the vehicle, which is standard for any key made for a car.
- With a working fob, we add the new one through the OBD port. With none, we confirm the programming route for your VIN before starting.
- We test every fob: unlock, lock, start, and the emergency blade in the door.
What affects the cost of a Traverse key replacement?
We do not quote numbers on a web page, because the honest answer depends on your situation. The main factors are:
- Whether you still have a working fob. A spare is usually the more economical route compared with starting from zero.
- Whether the job is all keys lost, which can involve online GM server access or dealer-level work.
- The fob itself. Smart fobs cost more than the older bladed keys many owners remember.
- Whether the fob is only dead, in which case a battery may solve it, or actually lost, soaked, or crushed.
- Where the vehicle is. A mobile van visit to your driveway or parking spot differs from bringing the Traverse or the fob to our storefront.
- The time of day you need service.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What we confirm by VIN before we start
The chip family and the OBD programming method for this year are verified. What varies is the all-keys-lost path, since it depends on the tool used and on GM's online validation. We do not treat any single requirement as fixed for every Traverse, and we will not guess. If your vehicle turns out to need dealer service, we tell you plainly instead of starting a job we cannot finish.
If you are not sure what year your Traverse is, read the VIN on the dash or door jamb to us and we will sort it out. You can also browse the Chevrolet Traverse key page or the full Chevrolet key service list for other model years.
Why call Wilshire Lock & Key for a Traverse fob?
We have been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile service vans that cover 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. You reach one company, not a dispatch middleman, and David, the owner and lead technician, oversees the work. The phone at (213) 577-1366 is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith for it before work begins. For other vehicles, see our car key services, or use the contact page to send us your VIN and situation. Our home page covers everything else we do.
Frequently asked questions
My Traverse says 'no remote detected.' Do I need a new key?
Not necessarily. That message often means the CR2450 battery in the fob is dead. The hidden emergency blade will still open the door. Replace the battery first, and if the message stays, call us and we will check the fob.
Do you need my original key to make a 2024 Traverse spare?
For a duplicate, yes, the original working key needs to be present. We program the new fob through the OBD port. If you have no working key, that is an all-keys-lost job, which we handle differently.
Can you make a key if I lost every fob?
It is possible, but 2024 key programming is validated through GM's servers. Depending on the tool, the job may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) with NASTF VSP-credentialed tooling, or dealer service. We confirm the route by VIN.
Why is a lost Traverse fob more costly than an older key?
The fob is a smart proximity device with a Hitag Pro chip that must be programmed to the vehicle, not just cut. That adds parts and programming work compared with a plain bladed key.
What if my fob got wet or crushed?
Bring it in or call us. Water damage and crushing are common failures on these fobs. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth saving or whether a replacement makes more sense.
Can you come to me, or do I have to visit the shop?
Both work. Our mobile vans serve 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and our storefront is at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood. Call (213) 577-1366 to arrange either.
