The 2015–2020 Tahoe uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Chevrolet Tahoe key guide.

HYQ1AA-family proximity fob; push-button start standard on most retail trims. Base LS and fleet/police (PPV) units are reported with a keyed ignition and 46E flip key — push-to-start did not become standard on the PPV until 2021 — so we confirm per vehicle.
What kind of key does a 2015 Tahoe use?
Most retail 2015 Tahoes use a smart proximity fob from the HYQ1AA family. You keep it in your pocket, press the button on the dash, and the truck starts. The fob carries a 46E (Hitag2 Extended) transponder chip, and that chip family is verified against more than one source.
Inside the fob is a hidden emergency blade. That detail matters more than people expect, because it explains the most common 2015 Tahoe complaint we hear about.
- Dead fob battery: the dash reports 'no remote detected', but the hidden blade still opens the door.
- Lost fob: replacing a smart fob costs more than replacing an older bladed key.
- Water-damaged or crushed fobs: pocket washes, spilled drinks, and a fob left under a heavy bag all show up in this category.
Do you need a duplicate, or are all your keys lost?
For this setup, making a duplicate requires an original key. If you still have one working fob, adding a second is the simpler job, and it is usually the more economical route than waiting until the last fob is gone.
If every fob is lost, we can still make a new key. All-keys-lost is possible on this Tahoe. It takes more steps, because the truck has no working key to learn from, and we need to confirm the exact vehicle before we cut or program anything.
- You call (213) 577-1366 and tell us the year, model, and whether you have any working fob.
- We confirm the trim and key type, and ask for the VIN so we are not guessing.
- A mobile van comes to the Tahoe, or you bring it to our Westwood storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd.
- We program the new fob through the OBD port. The data for this year does not call for NASTF SDRM access.
- We test that the fob starts the truck, locks and unlocks the doors, and that the emergency blade works.
What affects the price of a 2015 Tahoe key?
We do not quote numbers on a web page, because the right figure depends on your situation. These are the things that move the cost:
- Whether you have a working original key. A duplicate and an all-keys-lost job are not the same amount of work.
- How many fobs you need programmed, since every fob has to be added to the truck.
- Which key your Tahoe really has. A smart fob and a keyed flip key are different parts.
- Where the truck is. If it cannot be driven, a mobile visit saves you a tow.
- The condition of the old fob. A dead battery is a very different problem from a crushed or water-damaged unit.
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366One thing we confirm by VIN: base LS and fleet Tahoes
Push-button start is standard on most retail trims, but not every 2015 Tahoe. Base LS and fleet or police (PPV) units are reported with a keyed ignition and a 46E flip key. Push-to-start did not become standard on the PPV until 2021.
Because that is reported rather than confirmed for every truck, we check each vehicle by VIN or in person before we promise a part. If yours has a keyed ignition, you need a different key than the smart fob described above, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than after a part arrives.
Why call Wilshire Lock & Key for a Tahoe key?
We have been in business since 1987 and run both a storefront and mobile service vans, so one company handles your call from start to finish with no dispatch middlemen. David, the owner and lead technician, oversees the work. Our phone is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and we serve 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license. Ask any locksmith for it before they start work, including us. For more on this model, see our Chevrolet Tahoe key page or the wider Chevrolet car key service list. If you would rather write than call, use our contact page.
Frequently asked questions
My 2015 Tahoe says 'no remote detected'. Do I need a new fob?
Not necessarily. That message often points to a dead fob battery. The hidden emergency blade will still open the door, and a fresh battery or a fob check usually settles it before any replacement is needed.
Can you make a 2015 Tahoe key if I lost every fob?
Yes. All-keys-lost is possible for this setup. It involves more work than a duplicate, and we confirm the vehicle by VIN first.
Do you need my original key to copy it?
For a duplicate, yes, an original key is needed. If you have no working key, we handle it as an all-keys-lost job instead.
Does my Tahoe have push-button start?
Most retail trims do. Base LS and fleet or police units are reported with a keyed ignition and a 46E flip key, so we check yours by VIN or in person.
Do I have to tow my Tahoe to you?
Usually not. Our mobile vans can work on the truck where it sits, or you can bring it to our Westwood storefront if that suits you better. Call (213) 577-1366 to talk it through.
Why is a smart fob costlier than an older bladed key?
A smart proximity fob holds electronics and a transponder chip that must be programmed to the truck, while an older bladed key is mostly cut metal. That extra programming step is what raises the cost.
