The 2021–2024 Suburban uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Chevrolet Suburban key guide.

YG0G21TB2 smart fob. All-keys-lost on this electrical architecture may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) with NASTF VSP-credentialed tooling or dealer service depending on the tool — confirmed per job.
What key does a 2021 Suburban use, and what does that mean for you?
The 2021 Suburban is a push-to-start truck. The key is a smart proximity fob, model YG0G21TB2, and the truck senses it nearby, so you never turn a blade in the ignition. Inside the fob is an ID49 chip (NXP Hitag Pro/AES family). Two independent sources list that chip family for this year, and we treat it as verified.
The fob also holds a mechanical backup key, a thin emergency blade hidden in the housing. It opens the driver's door when the fob is not working. It does not start the truck. Starting still needs the truck to recognize the electronic key.
In practice, a replacement is not a blade you can cut at a hardware counter. The fob has to be programmed to the truck, and that is done through the OBD port under the dash.
- Key type: smart proximity fob with push-to-start
- Chip family: ID49 (NXP Hitag Pro/AES)
- Backup: hidden emergency blade for the door
- Programming method: OBD
The fob says 'no remote detected'. Is the key dead?
Often it is only the battery. A common complaint on this truck is a dead fob battery. The dash reports 'no remote detected', but the emergency blade still opens the door, so you can get in and the truck may still refuse to start normally.
Replace the fob battery before assuming you need a new key. If a fresh battery does not fix it, the fob may be water-damaged or crushed. Both are known problems on this generation, and a damaged fob usually means a replacement.
If you are stuck in a parking lot with a dead fob, call us. We will talk through the battery check first, because that is the lighter-cost fix when it works.
Duplicate key or all keys lost: what is the difference on this truck?
If you still have one working fob, a duplicate is the straightforward case. The original key is needed for duplication on this Suburban, so keep that fob safe and do not wait until the last one fails.
If every key is gone, a replacement is still possible, but it is a bigger job. On this electrical architecture, all-keys-lost work may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) using NASTF VSP-credentialed tooling, or it may need dealer service, depending on the tool used. We cannot say in advance which route your truck will take. We confirm it per job, and we will tell you plainly if it ends up at the dealer.
We do not push past what the vehicle requires, and we will not guess at the method over the phone. We would rather tell you the real path before anyone starts work.

Call (213) 577-1366What affects the price of a 2021 Suburban key replacement?
We do not quote numbers in a web page, because the real figure depends on your situation. Here is what moves the cost on this truck:
- Whether you have a working fob to copy or have lost every key. All keys lost is the bigger job.
- The fob itself. A smart fob costs more than the older bladed keys on earlier trucks, and owners often notice that.
- Whether the all-keys-lost route needs GM server access and credentialed tooling or has to go to the dealer.
- How many fobs you want programmed in one visit.
- Where the truck is. A mobile visit to your location differs from bringing it to our Westwood storefront.
- Whether the existing fob is damaged by water or impact, and whether a battery alone solves the problem.
What we confirm by VIN
The chip family and fob model above are verified for the 2021 Suburban. What is not settled is the exact all-keys-lost route for an individual truck. The note on this setup says it depends on the tooling. So we confirm by VIN and in person before we commit to a method.
Send us the VIN or have it ready when you call. We will tell you what we can do, what we cannot, and whether the dealer is the honest answer for your case.
Why call Wilshire Lock & Key
We have been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile service vans. You deal with one company, not a dispatch middleman passing your job along. David, the owner and lead technician, oversees the work.
California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license. Ask any locksmith you call for theirs. For more on the brand and model, see our Chevrolet key pages, the Suburban overview, or the main car keys hub. You can also contact us with your VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Can you program a 2021 Suburban fob without the dealer?
When you have a working key, programming goes through the OBD port and does not require a dealer visit. All keys lost is more variable, so we confirm that case by VIN.
Do I need my original key to get a copy?
Yes. For this Suburban, the original key is needed for duplication. If you have no working key, it becomes an all-keys-lost job.
Can all keys lost be fixed on a 2021 Suburban?
It is possible. It may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) with NASTF VSP-credentialed tooling, or dealer service, depending on the tool. We confirm the route per job.
My dash says 'no remote detected'. What should I do?
Try a fresh fob battery first. You can open the door with the hidden emergency blade. If a new battery does not help, the fob may be damaged and need replacing.
What chip does the 2021 Suburban key use?
The fob uses an ID49 chip from the NXP Hitag Pro/AES family. That is verified against two sources for this year.
Does the hidden blade start the truck?
No. The emergency blade opens the driver's door only. The truck is a push-to-start model and needs a programmed fob to start.
Do you come to me or do I bring the truck in?
Both. We have a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile vans serving 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Call (213) 577-1366 any hour.
