The 2024–2026 Silverado uses the same key setup, so everything on this page applies to those years too. The full picture is on the Chevrolet Silverado key guide.

YG0G21TB2-era smart fobs on push-button trims; lower work-truck trims may still use a bladed flip key — confirmed per vehicle. All-keys-lost on this electrical architecture may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) with NASTF VSP-credentialed tooling or dealer service depending on the tool — confirmed per job. The separate Silverado EV uses a different (Megamos AES ID88) system not covered by this entry.
What kind of key does a 2024 Silverado use?
Most 2024 Silverados with push-button start use a smart proximity key. You never put it in the ignition. The truck senses the fob in the cab, and you press the start button. Inside the fob is a transponder chip and a small radio that talk to the truck. Our reference sources list the chip family as Hitag Pro (ID49), but that has not been independently verified, so treat it as our working information and not a final answer.
Every one of these fobs also holds a mechanical emergency blade. It slides out of the fob and opens the driver's door when the fob has no power. For you, that means a dead battery should not leave you locked out, though it can leave you unable to start the truck until the fob is read again.
Lower work-truck trims may still come with a bladed flip key instead of a push-button fob. We don't assume which one you have. We check the truck itself.
- Push-button trims: smart proximity fob, programmed by OBD
- Hidden emergency blade built into the fob
- Some work-truck trims: possibly a bladed flip key, confirmed per vehicle
- The Silverado EV is a different system and is not covered on this page
Duplicate a key or replace after losing all of them?
These are two different jobs, and the difference matters for the owner.
If you still have a working fob, making another is the simpler route. The original key is needed for duplication on this truck, and the new fob is programmed through the OBD port. Having a spare made while you still hold one is usually the more economical route compared with waiting until none are left.
If every key is gone, replacement is still possible. It is a bigger job, though. On this electrical architecture, all-keys-lost work may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) with NASTF VSP-credentialed tooling, or in some cases dealer service, depending on the tool involved. We confirm which path applies to your truck during the job, not in advance over the phone, and we tell you plainly if it turns out to be a dealer-only case.
What affects the cost of a 2024 Silverado key?
We don't quote numbers on a web page because the real answer depends on your truck. Here is what moves the cost.
Our notes on this model say replacing a lost fob costs more than replacing an older bladed key. The fob has electronics and a radio, and it has to be programmed to the truck.
- Whether you have a working key to copy or all keys are lost
- Which key your trim uses: push-button smart fob or bladed flip key
- Whether the all-keys-lost job needs server access and credentialed tooling
- The condition of the old fob, since water-damaged or crushed fobs can't be read
- Whether we come to you or you bring the truck to the storefront
Locked out or need a locksmith now?
We answer around the clock, every day of the year.
Call (213) 577-1366What we haven't verified, and how we handle it
The data for this model year is marked unverified. The chip family comes from two outside references and has not been confirmed on a truck in our hands. The exact fob on your trim, and whether a given all-keys-lost job runs through server access or the dealer, can vary.
So we confirm by VIN and in person before we cut or program anything. If something turns out to be dealer-only, we say so and don't pretend otherwise. California requires locksmith companies to hold a BSIS LCO license, and you should ask any locksmith you call for it.
How we handle a Silverado key job
Wilshire Lock & Key has been in business since 1987, with a storefront at 10740 Wilshire Blvd in Westwood and mobile service vans. It's one company, with no dispatch middlemen, and David oversees the work. We cover 140 cities across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and the phone at (213) 577-1366 is answered 24 hours a day, every day.
- Call us and give us the trim, the VIN if you have it, and how many working keys you have left.
- We confirm the key type for your truck and whether it's a push-button fob or a bladed key.
- We tell you whether it's a duplicate or an all-keys-lost job, and what the path looks like.
- We cut the emergency blade as needed and program the new fob through the OBD port.
- We test the fob in the cab, with push-button start and the door and remote functions, before we finish.
Frequently asked questions
My dash says 'no remote detected.' Do I need a new key?
Not always. This message often points to a dead fob battery. The hidden emergency blade will still open the door. If a fresh battery doesn't clear the message, the fob itself may be damaged and we can look at it.
Can you make a new 2024 Silverado key if I lost all of them?
Yes, all-keys-lost replacement is possible on this truck. Depending on the tooling, it may require GM server access (ACDelco SPS2) with NASTF VSP-credentialed tools, or dealer service. We confirm which applies to your truck during the job.
Do I need my original key to get a spare?
Yes. For duplication on this setup, the original key is needed. If you have one working fob, getting a spare made now is usually the more economical route.
Does every 2024 Silverado have a push-button fob?
No. Push-button trims use a smart fob, but lower work-truck trims may still use a bladed flip key. We confirm by VIN or in person.
Is the chip in my key confirmed?
Our references list Hitag Pro (ID49), but that is unverified. We don't rely on it alone. We confirm the correct key and chip for your truck before programming.
Does this page cover the Silverado EV?
No. The Silverado EV uses a different system (Megamos AES ID88) that isn't covered here. Call us and we'll go over your specific vehicle.
Where can I find more about Silverado keys from other years?
